No one has ever asked me if my ring is fake… I have told my close friends/family that it is a moissy, but everyone else just says “what a gorgeous ring! He did a great job!” lol. I also don’t mind telling people that my ring isn’t a diamond, but since few people have heard of moissanite it can just be a pain sometimes. You don’t need to tell anyone if you don’t feel like it. There are many on wedding bee who disagree, but I personally think that the gem in your e-ring is no one’s business but your own.

Hi, no I’ve never been asked if my ring was diamond, everyone just assumes that it is. When I first got it I was so excited about it and I wanted to spread the word about moissy but I got a few snarky comments from a coworker that really put me down, and since then I don’t bring it up anymore, I just say thanks when people compliment me. I think she was just jealous that my moissy outshined her tiny expensive diamond lol!

I’ve been asked if my ring “was real” (which, honestly, what a silly question, as if somehow anything other than diamond is real) by close friends and complete strangers, and I’ve never had an issue with gushing over my moissanite ring. 🙂 It has a small fan club at work, and just the other day I was talking with someone and she complimented my earrings, and I said thanks, they’re moissanite!

Well, I gave her a few websites to check out and she’s trying to decide which size stud earrings to get for herself. 😀

But most of the time, I just get compliments, and I thank people for them, and correct them only if they specifically compliment my “diamond”.

There is a ton of information on these boards regarding moissanite, the pros and cons, why some like it, why some don’t. Good luck with your search!

@bellenola:  I’ve been wearing my 1 ct moissy ering for a month and no one has asked me anything. I’ve gotten complements on my beautiful ring and that’s about it. I would tell if someone asked but most just assume I see no reason why I should tell them. My FIs coworker almost fainted when she saw it (lol) so he told her it was “lab made” and that was enough for her.

I only think you’d get questioned if you went with an outrageous size. I think some ppl who could probably afford a .5 ct diamond and buy a 2.5 ct moissy would get the side eye for example. My ring it nice but not too large (1ct on a 6.25 finger) and its a simple solitaire.

@bellenola:  I’ve had my moissy for a little over 2 years now, and most people just assume that it’s a diamond.  My center stone is 6mm (0.75 ct), so it isn’t excessively large.  I happened to like moissanite more than diamond, and knew about the stone before I was even thinking about getting engaged, so I tend to tell everyone upfront that it’s a moissy.  However, I think most people won’t ask.
