Okay, this may or may not be helpful to you but I will try…

I live in Southern California and recently we purchased my Verragio setting that had to be customized for the color of gold I wanted. We have a 1.36 ct Moissanite in square brilliant we set in it. I don’t have my ring yet, so I can’t speak of the setting by my FI told me that it looks gorgeous. The jeweler we used gave us a break on the setting price (which was around $150 I think?) because we are a somewhat of a distance customer. But, we also bought the ring from them.

They sold Tacori, Verragio, Art Carved, blah blah blah in there so they are familiar with designer settings and as I said, they set my moissy for us. They didn’t even snub their noses at it or try to sell us a diamond either which was REALLY nice compared to other stores we visited. But…you are on the other side of the country from this store so I don’t know how much that will help you. 🙁

We used South Coast Jewler in Santa Ana, CA. Jenny was the girl who worked with us for most of it. If you are willing to send it out to have it set, they will probably be able to help you out. Our jeweler said that they had to set up the setting differently than a diamond for mounting the moissy. I don’t know how much truth there is to that but, they seemed to know what they were doing.

I am sure you can find a place closer to you though! Just call around and ask if they have worked with moissy/Tacori before.

Just an FYI: The Tacori warranty will be invalidated if anyone besides Tacori works on the ring.

I’m getting moissanite set in a Tacori by Robbins Brothers, where we purchased the setting.  They don’t have stores near you, but they are Tacori dealers, so even though your warranty isn’t valid, they would be a trustworthy company to have work on your ring if you would be willing to send it out.  Hopefully I’ll see the ring within the next couple of weeks and I’ll know if they’re good with moissainte.  I know moissanite RBs are slightly more shallow than diamond RBs, but I don’t see why that would prevent an experienced jeweler from properly setting your stone.

@SereneRoc: well, I’m in seattle so my jeweler is too far away!  but here are some things that could put your mind at ease:

have you tried yelp? reading reviews will help you narrow down a jeweler. before you pick one, look up their rating on better business bureau.  you might also want to call ahead and ask if they are comfortable with working with moissanite.

also, you consider insuring your setting and stone, and take lots of close-up detailed photos before handing them to a jeweler. that way you’ll have plenty of evidence if something happens.

We bought my Tacori ring from Charleston Alexander in Bethesda, MD.  I’m not sure if they set moissanites, but their customer service is amazing.  They re-sized and dipped my RHR that I didn’t even buy from them.  If you give them a call and explain your situation over the phone, they might have good advice or suggestions.  Sorry I can’t be of more help.  🙁

I’ve used Campbell and Co in Philadelphia and while they didn’t set my moissanite, they are willing to work with it and they are just the nicest people.
