I keep reading lots of threads about moissanite, and just read one about trading a diamond in for a moissanite. I’m curious, what are prices of moissanite like compared to diamonds. I know that price depends on the 4 C’s but on average are the prices comparable or is there a big difference for a similar size? There hasn’t been much buzz about moissanite in Australia where I am.

i could be wrong, but I think the “carat equivilent” price of moissanite is about $500 USD. Obviously, the carat price of diamond is much higher and highly variable due to the quality of the diamond (as determined by 4Cs as you say).

I cam across this interesting article from a popular science website, and it says:
The retail cost of moissanite is based upon the cost of the gold and the setting in addition to the cost of the jewel. As a general rule, with all other things being equal, a moissanite retails for about 1/10th the cost of a diamond.
The article is a bit of a spiel for Charles & Colvard, but otherwise quite informative.

It’s actually quite hard to find any objective articles about moissanites (as in, without the diamond industry or the moissanite producers/jeweler’s slant). So if anyone finds some, it’d be most appreciated…

It costs less than jewellery-grade diamonds and more than cubic zirconia. It is patented and the patent holds the price at that level. Hope that helps.

When I purchased my enhanced moissanite it cost me around 600 for a carat. When I purchased my 1.05 carat diamond it cost 4,000 which was great for the quality of it. The diamond is vvs2 j colour but very white and sparkely and excellent cut, polish with all the ideal attributes (excellent across the board). One carat diamonds are generally $3000 plus. If your going to sacrifice of something to get the diamond you want I would say sacrifice on the colour, but not the cut or clarity. With excellent cut and clarity, you have the sparkle and great colour due to a quality cut/clarity. Moissanites have pretty standard prices unlike diamonds. Both are great options depending on what your looking for 🙂
