How much will you spend this year on presents for your kids? Do you typically do one big present then a few small ones? What do you consider to be a "big" present? I noticed this differs a lot in my circle of moms, I've heard a lot of comments how we spoil our daughter etc. I do go all out, we just have one daughter so far and she is our world. I love to shop especially for girly stuff so I go a little crazy. The older she gets the more aware she is of exactly what she wants. I'm really looking forward to this Xmas. She is in a huge Disney Princess phase right now. Currently planning to get her a portable princess DVD player she can take in the car, a huge 3 ft Disney Princess castle dollhouse then a bunch of smaller things like new Barbies, food for her play kitchen, tea party set, play makeup, some movies then clothes of course. So what's on your list this year? We will probably spend approx $500, last year it was more like $300 or so.

@7-9-11bride: Last year we probably spent $500 on him, but since we have another baby on the way and are looking for a new home, it will probably be more around $300

We'll spend $100 or less.LOL Our baby will only be 3 months old, so the toys we do buy will be used during the yr when she gets older.LOL I plan to buy her lots of clothes as well.

@MsMamaBear: Oh yeah it's so much easier when they're that young! I think my daughter's big toy the 1st Xmas was $35 push lion toy. Other than clothes and simple toys they don't need a lot at that age. For my daughter's 3rd bday next spring we are planning on Barbie jeep type thing but geez they're spendy, like $350 or more, ugh.

Since I lost my job, and we have family to buy for also, we will probably spend around $100. We are getting him a big toy (around $50-$60), then some smaller things. Our families will be giving him lots of presents too, so he will be fine. he only plays with a few of his toys anyways so its kind of pointless to buy lots of things he won't play with!

Last year, we probably spent $100 on our daughter, but she was only 6 months old.  This year, we've set the limit at $300, but we're redoing the guest room as her "big girl" room, so some of that includes new bedding, decorations, etc...

The toys on our list include a trunk of dress-up clothes, a play shopping cart with play food, a few new books, and a play computer/e-book thing from Leapster.

    @7-9-11bride:

I got that for my niece the one year and she LOVED it. She was the coolest kid on the block with her Barbie Jeep. Of course we got my nephew the non Barbie Jeep as well, they're 2 weeks apart.

@regberadaisy: I actually came across a Mercedes G Class SUV power ride on with a working radio and mp3 player so we may do that instead. I drive a Benz and she'd be thrilled to be just like mommy, lol. The interior even looks similar and she's big on things that look real. I told DH it was no fair she gets a Benz SUV before I do, haha since I have a sedan and I'm dying to upgrade.

Awesome! Any riding car is awesome at that age. She somehow managed to fit 3 kids into that thing when she took it for a test drive! hahaha

My baby girl will only be about 5 months old, so we're not going to be going all out this year. Well, we're Jewish, so it's Chanukah for us. But still, we're not going to start the 8 night thing until next year b/c she has no idea. We'll probably just do one or two little things just for funsies. I'm sure she'll get more from her grandparents then she will from us.

I'm due 12/15 and we've spent a boatload so far on everything baby.. I have no idea what's going on for Christmas with friends and family.... and I'm having a hard time trying to separate things I've bought the baby for fun and what should be an actual Christmas gift, goes in the stocking, etc..? Poor DH, he's getting screwed this year, lol

I voted $300ish...I have an amazing 3yr old and I we plan on SPOILING her!!! I am planning on one of those barbie cars she can drive in and then some smaller items.  I don't care it that is 'too much'.  I didn't have alot growing up so to be able to go a little crazy on her makes me happy!

@7-9-11bride: I'm totally wondering if they voted that for fun ;)

If we have a newborn next Christmas, we likely will be spending MUCH less than 100. I figure baby doesn't know the difference, anyway - and will be spoiled by my family (DH family doesn't do holidays). I might use it as an opportunity to buy things I/we need (cloth diapers, onesies, big toy) since s/he won't know any better yet :)

We have a teenager, so there is no option of getting away with inexpensive toys. LOL. His big gift this year is for both Christmas and his birthday, a compound bow with all of the accessories. That is going to set us back about $500-600, but it should be well worth it. He is a natural, and it's one of the few things that can really get him to focus. We'll also do all of his traditional Christmas gifts on top of the bow, so he will get his ornament, new PJs, at least 1 book, a nutcracker, and a stocking filled with smaller stuff (e.g. Magic/Yu-Gi-Oh/Pokemon cards, a Bionicle, ITunes gift card, Amazon gift card for his Kindle, etc.).

Probably about 300 this year for our son, he's 2. We are spending about 75-100 for each nephew and niece which is 325-400 total. So for the chilren this year about 625-700, give or take. We also have three birthdays for our nephews and nieces, this time of year, so we really need to stick to our budget.

We've always gotten our son alot for christmas, as we don't get him too many toys all year except birthdays, and the occasional holiday. Besides books, and little things here and there.

We got him a firehouse dollhouse, and its pretty amazing. It was only 79 bucks at costco! Sooo excited to give it to him! :)

There was always a nice Christmas stocking, one "nice" gift and several smaller gifts. I have never spent a lot on Christmas, I tended to spend more on the birthday gifts. I tried to place the focus on the celebrating, NOT the gifts.
