She’s going to get a million cute outfits, like waaaay more than she would ever be able to use.  I would buy something she actually needs like: diapers, wipes, towels, washcloths, gift cards to baby stores, etc.  There are a lot of expensive baby items that she’s going to need like a crib, stroller, car seat, etc.  So even just cash would go a long way.  I know it doesn’t sound as fun as cute clothes, but it would honestly be more helpful/useful and therefore more appreciated.

The best gift I got when I was pregnant with my first baby was a “safety basket”. One of my friends bought everything safety related- a first aid kit; baby health kit with thermometer, nasal aspirator and baby scissors; socket covers; safety latches and locks for cabinets and drawers; a baby gate- they are not just for stairs;door knob covers; a fire extinguisher,

Barbiestylez:  practical gifts are my favorite. Car seat, high chair, pack n play. My very favorite gift was a homemade quilt one of my friends made.

if you want to get her something for her, I lived in my button down night shirts!

Barbiestylez:  DIAPERS! I bought my brother and SIL enough for a year for all three of their boys. If they had been using cloth diapers I would have paid for a service to clean them for a year.

The gift we used the most was probably the activity mat. She used it from birth, and she still uses it at 8 months old. Also things like her ergo carrier, and car seat/travel system.

Barbiestylez:  It all depends on how large, or small, babies tend to run in the familes. Typically, from my experience, they do not stay in newborn longer than 3 months, mine then stayed in size 1 & 2 until about 9 months. Size 3 after that. We have a tendency to have big babies though.

Another thing you could do is give them a gift card and write in there that you intend it to be for the diapers.

They can always take them and exchange them if they are not the right size. I am not sure what budget you are looking at with this gift. What I did was buy 4 packs, considering 1 a week. Even though I know babies use more than that, every little bit helps. I thought about buying the large boxes, but with them, once opened there is no exchanging them and the baby may outgrow the size before you are through the box.

I am sure even if you buy say like 12 packs, in the varying sizes, it will be greatly appreciated. Diapers and formula are two of the most expensive items needed, that are not one time expenses, for a baby.

ETA: I wanted to add that another thoughtful gift that I always got from my mom or granmother was something I could wear in the hospital when I had the baby. Keep in mind pjs are not always the best because of the doctor needing to check you when they come in. Thinking of mommy is always a good thing!

Barbiestylez:  Commenting on the diapers it all depends on how big the baby is and how fast the baby grows.  My son was a premie so diapers didn’t fit unless we got premie ones. He has been in size 4 diapers for a year now so I would maybe purchase a few different sizes
