My SIL is due in December. I am so excited – I bought a few things off her registry, along with Aden & Anais swaddling blankets which my new mom friend adores. I am going to two of her showers – at the first I’ll give her the bigger presents (it’s in her hometown, so easy to transport gifts), and at the second I want to give her some smaller things. Here are some ideas I was thinking:
Monthly onesie stickers (neutral, since the baby’s gender will be a surprise)
Little dividers for the closet – plastic circlies that go on the rod and help separate clothes (ie, 0-3, 3-6, . . . ) – i found some in the same theme as their nursery bedding
Crochet a blanket/baby hat
Cozy cotton robe and PJs from Target (the soft jersey Gilligan and O’Malley ones) – for her to bring to the hospital/use at home, and not worry about geting dirty/staining
What do you think the best ideas would be? Did you get anything special (or give anything special) that was great?

You have some great ideas! I am not a mom, nor am I a mom-to-be, but at my SIL’s shower two years ago we (DH and myself) bought her a swing.
I also made two baskets for her – one for baby, with things like pacifiers, little noses, little fevers, ear swabs, diaper cream, teething rings and teething gel, etc., and one for mom –
with a small bottle of wine (the little ones in the plastic bottles), a nip (kind of a joke, but she loves a good drink once in awhile and was not planning to breastfeed, so she loved it) as well as a dunkin donuts gift card, nice smelling hand lotion, etc. She loved it!

My favorite gift was a newborn photoshoot. Although that’s pretty expensive, depending on the photographer.

I’m not a mom, but I like to try to get something just for the mom and not just the baby like sorrycharlie did. Of course a new mom would love anything for the baby, but because she will be SO focused on the newborn I like to get something for her that she probably wouldn’t get for herself.
I love the photoshoot idea.
Also, maybe some gift cards for food places that have takeout?
Just trying to think a little bit outside the box.

My favorite gift was the infant bathtub. She is going to get a thousand hats and blankets but I use my blankets SO much so I say the more the better. Also those packs of onesies. I know they are boring but it helps when you don’t h ave to do laundry every 10 seconds.

I love the monthly stickers because that’s something I was planning on putting on our registry. And I LOVE the crochet blanket IF you were planning on crocheting it yourself. There’s nothing like a handmade blanket, the baby will have 20 fleece blankets but not a handmade crochet one by her aunt! 🙂
And it’s great that you’ll be going to both. 🙂

I second the newborn photoshoot idea. My favorite gift was a very large toddler proof version of The Very Hungry Caterpiller. My son still loves it (He’s 4) and it’s what I give at every baby shower. Kids love the classics ^_^

Thanks for the ideas ladies, I am glad to hear some of mine are on the right track, and I’m definitely looking into both geting SIL a little something and also looking into photography.

I would have loved the photo idea. I also love the socks that look like shoes. We got a lot of crochet blankets and fleece blankets and cotten blankets so blankets we were good on.

I think the jammies in a gift basket maybe with some other pampering things sounds nice.
I got alot of clothes and some plastic bins to keep all of them would have been nice. I love the idea of the closet organizers but have only enough room in his closet for his current clothes (we have a lot of clothes).
One thing that was better than onsies was the gerber side snap t-shirts. These are easy to get on and off. We wear them to the doctors because you have to fully undress them.
That is what I would give from now on at every baby shower.
