I am also from Montreal and I second the activities that deathbydesign said. I also will add on the Botannical Gardens and La Ronde (if you like amusement parks).  Also, just walking along Ste.Catherine street west is great for shopping.

Also, if the weather is nice, I suggest eating somewhere along Prince Arther streer or Duluth – on the cobblestone part – there are a ton of bring your own wine restaurants and you can sit out on the terrace – great atmosphere.

You’re coming on a bad weekend – it’s so wet here right now!

My favourite things to do are walking and eating. The Plateau/Mile End is nice for wandering, if the weather picks up. There are some really good restaurants around the Plateau, especially if you want to bring your own wine. It depends what kind of things you like to eat, but there’s an amazing Afghani restaurant on Duluth (Khyber Pass) for a nice meal (but maybe call for a reservation), there’s Schwartz on St Laurent for lunch/a snack, go get some bagels from St Viateur Bagel (on St Viateur near Parc Ave) or Fairmount Bagel (on Fairmount around St-Urbain).

If you like museums, you can see the free collections at Musee des Beaux Arts (there’s a lot of exhibits) on Sherbrooke. Old Montreal is nice even in the rain; there’s museums, some nice restaurants. The Botanical Gardens have butterfly exhibit which is nice, as are their indoor gardens.

@kittyface:  Can you believe I lived in Montreal for 30 years and have never been to Schwartz’s?!  And I concur, St.Viateur bagels are the best!

@dynamic_duo:  My fiance lived here for 24 years and hadn’t – it took us a long while to go because we were sure it was all just hype… We were so wrong! You should totally go, but either at 11am or around 2/3pm to beat the tourists.

@kittyface:  I always planned to. I think it was just one of those things that you assumed you would get around to doing because you live there, but then never did.  I also have never been to Quebec City, lol.   And it was DH, who moved to Montreal for grad school, who took me to the Botannical Gardens and the Planetarium for the first time in my life a few years ago.

I’m in Montreal too 🙂 I also agree with all the activities suggested. If the weather is better, you could go for a walk on Mount Royal, its so pretty 🙂

@DeathByDesign:  La Banquise, yes !

OP, have you ever heard of poutine? Thats what La Banquise is known for !

Here is a link to my favorite restaurant. Its in the old part of Montreal and its awesome 🙂
