If you believe in things like fate, destiny, “signs”, a calling, and something being “in the stars” or whatever.
Some days I do, some days I don’t. It totally depends on my level of cynicism that day. 😉
Anyway I have posted about wanting to move out of Texas. SO I was, just out of curiousity, looking at universitiy options in Iowa. I am in San Antonio, TX and I have about 60+ credit hours at the community college. Five classes (in my case 2.25 semesters) away from my Associate’s degree.
So I was looking on the website for the University of Northern Iowa for transfer students and there was all the usual info about transfer agreements for Iowa community college students. Doesn’t apply to me, so I keep reading, and then there is a section regarding out of state transfer students. The FAQ question was “How will my Associate’s degree transfer if I am living in another state? and here was the answer:
(Keep in mind, this is Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, not a huge school and NOWHERE near Texas!)
“UNI does not have articulation (transfer) agreements from out-of-state community colleges (with the exception of Black Hawk College, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College, Northwest Vista College and St. Philips College);
Yeah, seriously, MY SCHOOL is the one bolded. Over 1000 miles away. I cannot even begin to imagine WHY this small school in Iowa would have articulation agreements with NO nearby states, and no larger cities in Texas, but they do have one with MY SPECIFIC city’s community colleges? Palo Alto, Northwest Vista, and St. Philips are all in my city and are all part of my community college district. I don’t know where Black Hawk college is but WOW.
And then I did some numbers and realized that even if I have to pay out of state tuition, this school is cheaper than the private univeristy 3 blocks away I would have to attend here to get the degree I want.
And then, I used their litle online financial aid estimator which “estimated” I’d have my full cost of attendance met, even as a transfer student from out of state!!
So it just seems like it’s meant to be. We are going to schedule a campus visit when we are in Iowa for the wedding, and see if it’s really do-able, and if it is then we’re going to start planning on getting our house ready to sell!!!
