See your dress choice before the wedding.

We all know that we want there to be a mysterious element to our dress. and we want our SO to be surprised the day of!

    BUT

After reading some posts AS WELL as personal experience a big reason why i wont show my FI my dress is....

    he might hate it.

No matter how I put it, my FI and I have completely different tastes for the most part. For a ring he wanted to get me a simple solitare ring while i wanted a intricate vintage ring.

Whenever we look through bridal magazines and i ask him which dresses he likes he always picks the type of dress i DETEST.

But his opinion is important to me so i feel if i for some reason showed him my dress and he gave it a thumbs down...I wouldnt be as excited.

SO please ladies...keep the dress a secret. agreed?

Honestly, I don't think he is going to hate the dress when it's on you and you are staring adoringly at him!

MissAsb - and thats why i think that the dress shouldnt be shown ya know? Not because he will think your horrible walking down the aisle...but because you wont feel as confident knowing he doesnt really care for the dress ya know?

Agreed! He will love it no matter what on that day but before then it will be a secret so his opinions stay to himself!

I've always thought that it's most important to have the dress that YOU like, without worrying or factoring in what the FI likes.  Everyone has different tastes.  You are the one that has to wear the dress, so it's most important that YOU be happy with it!

^ Thats what made me make this post haha

Actually prior to my dress now I had purchased another one! It felt good but not great. and then when my FI was flipping through a bridal magazine..he knew i bought it from davids and loe and behold my dress was in the magazine. he pointed to the dress and asked as if he already knew "This is your dress huh?" I was mortified! When I asked him if he liked it....and he replied...um its...nice. I immediately felt like screaming. since then i changed my dress. Im much more confident in this dress and IM NOT showing it to my FI! ahah

I have a problem similar to yours except it's about veils. My FH keeps on ranting about how great simple veils are and bla bla bla... I just HATE simple veils especially on my gown.

Well at least we agree on the scalloped edge.

I'm going to do it my way though whether he likes it or not.

I absolutely agree with you.  We're on the same page with our SOs different taste.  Many that I loved in bridal magazines he thought were hideous, so I really hopes he likes my gown, cuz I love it.

I had this exact same fear!  My dress is a total secret, I just hope he likes it on the big day.

@ejs, that's what i did.... I picked the trampiest, shortest, most strapless, tightest tube dress I could find and told him I would be waddling down the aisle in that. He hasn't asked about my dress since. :)

@Krissycake:  Ha!  I am sure if my FI saw it, he would forget it too.  He once told me almost all wedding dresses looked the same because they were all white!

This is dead on! I want to show him so bad though but i too am afraid he will not like it or something..so far he has picked out some that are extremely similar to what i have chosen though..so i will be picking it out.

I agree with others, i dont think on the day off he will be caring too much on how he doesnt like it..obvously you would have a flattering and gorgeous dress on you that you will feel comforbale in and that will shine more than any bead on that gown!

Agreed! Hubs loved my dress, much better than the dress I originally picked out.  He even saw it twice before the wedding, well he came in the room with it hanging up, but he never actually saw it!! Men can be so oblivious sometimes, but at least this time it was a good thing Laughing

You'll look like a million bucks walking down the aisle, no matter what the dress looks like.  And most men are so clueless, he'll be like, nice white dress... But I agree with you, I didn't show him mine and the tears and emotion were nice the first time he saw me :)
