Hi everyone, I am getting married in 1 month (!), and my Fiance and are trying to iron out the tipping issue. I have looked at a decent amount of threads on the boards here, as has he, but our main issue is with appropriately tipping the catering staff. For a bit of background, we have largely put together this wedding filled with independently run businesses in the metro NYC area on our own.
Our caterer owns his own business (it’s not a large operation), and is charging us a $150 delivery /transport fee since he is based in New Jersey. We are getting married in Harlem. Not too much of a trek for him, to be honest. We are having a buffet set up for dinner, but are paying for 4 staff members at $26/hour to be present for food assistance, water filling, setting up tables. There is no gratituity written into the contract, and I feel that the delivery fee is enough extra cash for the owner of the business. Am I right in feeling this way? How much might you recommend for staff, considering that they will not be doing full serving duties BUT will be folding tables and chairs at the end of the evening?
