My Fiance wants to wear a morning coat and have his groomsmen do the same. I like the look of morning coats. But I’ve already chosen knee-length chiffon dresses for the bridesmaids (http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Short-Chiffon-Halter-Dress-with-Pleating-F13954_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-All-Bridesmaid-Dresses). The wedding is outdoors in July. I’m worried that the formality of the morning coats will not look right with the summery chiffon dresses. Any thoughts?

Morning dress is the most formal dress code for daytime events. You definitely need long dresses for your bridesmaids. Also, your male guests should all wear at least lounge suits. Have you already purchased these dresses or did you just select them? Alternatively, you could always ask the groom if he’d be comfortable wearing a stroller or Stresemann suit? I think it looks rather dapper, and was worn by several male guests at my wedding who did not own morning dress.Since the stroller is not quite as formal as morning dress, your ladies’ dresses may be short.
Gentleman’s Query – Choosing Wedding Attire
Having said that, I do have another question: How formal is your dress? You mention that your wedding is outdoors; Does that mean you will have a tea reception outside? I am not very familiar with American weddings, and my own wedding was in a Catholic cathedral in Europe.
