I am considering Morris Arboretum as a wedding ceremony and reception venue. Does anyone have any insight they can share? I actually went to high school right down the street, so I am familiar with the area, but wanted to see if anyone had any personal wedding experience there.
Any thoughts, advice, warnings, etc are welcome! Thanks in advance!

- Wedding: January 2013 - Atrium at the Curtis Center
@paperclipcharade: My sister got married there, 8 years ago, but still I’m sure it hasn’t changed too much. It was wonderful. They didn’t have any trouble with them as a venue, and they planned their wedding from Boston – so it wasn’t easy, but the Arboretum was very very accomodating!

@Miss Lyre: Thanks so much for responding with your insight! It is great to hear that the venue folks were easy to work with, especially from afar. Thanks again!

@paperclipcharade: Hey Jaqueline! Congrats on the wedding.
I’m getting married at the Arboretum on Sunday (October 14th). I actually had a horrible experience with the Arboretum and their staff. They were very unfriendly, cold, and did not seem to care about my finance or I (even when I handed them a check for the deposit on our wedding, the woman did not know our name nor shake our hands).
Thankfully, we have had an AMAZING caterer who has taken care of us and made up for the lack of hospitality from the Arboretum. Since you have to use one of the caterer provided by the Arboretum, I would recommend “Company’s Coming Catering” who are based out of Manayunk. They are very affordable and some of the most friendly people I have ever worked with.
It’s unfortunate the Arboretum is so mean and unaccomidating to weddings (we were told “the public events will always trump the private events, so your wedding will not be as important if we schedule a public event on the day of your wedding”)… just find the right caterer who is willing to work with you and make the planning process a much more pleasant experience.

We’re having our wedding at Morris in Oct of next year, 2013. I have read that the Morris staff isn’t the easiest to work with but honestly since we booked Companys Coming as our caterer we haven’t even had to work with the Morris Staff- Andrea at the caterer is Fabulous and helps guide you through the process instead. I’ve had nothing but a good experience thus far and would recommend the venue!
I also went to school right next door- didn’t plan for it, but fell it love with Morris from the moment we walked in in.
Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions!
