We are finally getting a puppy!!! We’ve been talking about it for about a year and a half, but then we found a pregnant stray kitty and took her in, and then we just had too many animals in a tiny space. But we eventually found homes for most of our fosters, and now we just bought a house last Friday (!!!), so we finally have space to get the dog we’ve always wanted.
There is an organization in Dallas called Duck Team 6. They rescue street dogs and help rehabilitate them to become awesome pets. Back in March, they found a very pregnant momma dog who was really friendly. They took her in, and on April 8th, she gave birth to eight of the most adorable puppies in the history of adorable puppies. They’ve been posting on Facebook about her plight from the very beginning. The puppies are finally almost old enough to be adopted! DH and I decided we just had to meet them.
Of the eight, we were most taken with one of the boys. Here are a few pictures of him Duck Team 6 has posted over the past few weeks:
We met him last Sunday, and he’s precious. He wants to be petted forever, though he’s perfectly happy to just chew on a stick if no petting hands are available. That’s what he did most of the time we were there!
He’s probably a Staffordshire terrier mix, and they say he’ll probably get to be forty to sixty pounds. I’ve only ever owned chihuahuas, and DH has always had Jack Russells, so he’ll be a bit bigger than we’re used to, but we’re so excited to have a big dog. DH wants a running buddy. I want a cuddle monster who will go on walks with us and play fetch. Our little boy is perfect, and I can’t wait to bring him home. He’ll be ready this weekend!
We’ve come up with a few names already but are having difficulty choosing between them. We’re looking for an old-fashioned, dignified name that sounds really silly on a dog. What do you ladies think?

Oh.My.God. That is the cutest little ball of fur (aside from my ball of fur, of course)!! He looks like pit bull and lab cross to me. I am so happy you are rescuing a puppy – they are so many wonderful dogs who need homes.
You should do a poll for the names you are considering. It’s hard without meeting him, so I would base it solely on name cuteness 😛 lol.

omg look at his little face. He’s got “monster” written all over him!!
I say try calling him all of the names for a while and see which one he likes. You’ll know!

OH MY GOODNESS. He is freaking adorable.
Okay so old-fashioned names: Clyde, Carlton, Marvin, Rueben, Franklin, Henry, Charles, Maxwell.
My pup has ‘mittens’ just like he does! So cute!

@MrsPanda99: Yeah, we always knew we would rescue. Getting one from a breeder or pet store was never an option for us. We considered getting an adult dog, but since we have a couple of elderly cats, we decided to go for a puppy so we could train him from the beginning that kitties are friends and part of the pack.
There is a poll there. Can you not see it? It’s visible for me, though the formatting is all screwed up.
