So, I am very lucky that my 8 week old daughter is an awesome night sleeper. We regularly get one 8+ hour stretch starting around 8 pm, then she still wake up and eat for about 20 minutes, then sleep another 2 or 3 hours. We used to get one or two good naps in, too. Well the last few days homebaby will not sleep during the day. She is still sleeping awesome at night, and is generally happy while awake so I can’t complain, but geez! arent babies suppose to sleep like 15 hours a day? Anyone else’s babies do this?
Here she is saying you want me to nap, huh, mom? You think a car ride will put me to sleep? You’re funny. No, but seriously, get me out of this carseat.

Ah, I meant to post this in babies, sorry! Can this be moved?
@stuckinwonderland: Thank you! I think I’ll keep her 🙂

My daughter when she was your daughters age was also a great night sleeper and naps were pretty much hit and miss. For us as she got older and learnt more skills she just did not want to sleep as playing was just too much fun.
At about 4 month we went cold turkey on her pacifier as it became a prop for naps (it was the only way we could get her to sleep but she would wake each time it fell out) and i mved her to her crib for all sleeps. No more swing or bouncer all sleeps in her own room.
This was a huge turning point for her. She learnt that as soon as she gets to her room, its sleep time. as a result naps got more structure.
Obviously we have weeks where it all goes belly up, like when new milestones and growth spurts are hit, but she is sleeping much better now.
All babies are different at the end of the day. Some can simply function with no naps during the day and others need the reccomended sleep to stay happy.
I have a sleep chart with wake/sleep times that i pretty much stick to at the moment.
ETA: i find it funny that my daughter wont give off sleepy cues until we hit her bedroom. As soon as she gets to the door as sees lights out she yawns, rubs her eyes and burys her face in my chest. its so cute but funny!

I didnt have the baby that sleeps 15+ hours a day for very long. At 3 weeks he could be up for 6 hours at a time… He did start sleeping through the night at 4 weeks old though 😉

Not always. When mine were Lititle like yours they would nap 20 minutes at at time. Night sleeping was not so good. It dosen’t matter. They are older now and I would be happy to do it all over. Enjoy your little one.

@FloridaGatorBride: Adorable! DS is now 2- he has never been a good night or day sleeper! He still does not sleep through the night- if I’m super lucky, he will only wake up once at night…I envy your LO sleeping so much, even if the day naps aren’t the best right now!!

Ours was regularly up for many hours during the day, refused to nap unless held, never slept in the car, etc. Our doctor was very concerned at how little he was sleeping. I bought him a Woombie. It took 2 days and then I had a baby that would sleep in his bassinet for naps, at night, etc for appropriate times. He was SOOO much happier! I can’t say enough good things about it!

Our DD started sleeping 8-10 hour strectches at a few weeks old and then we had nap problems later on. We had to start scheduling her naps and putting her down in her room in the crib. If she didn’t sleep, then she would just stay in there awake. Eventually, she slept and now she is 10 months old and takes 2 naps a day, usually 1-2 hours each, and sleeps from about 7:30pm to 6:30 the next morning. Sometimes, she will go back to sleep after I breastfeed her before I go to work and she’ll sleep until 8 or 9.

We have a great night sleeper/shocking day sleeper! Always has been, seemingly always will be. 😉

Our LO hates taking naps. She hardly ever takes one and if she does it is like 15 minutes. And the 7 hr stretch we were getting at night has now turned into no more than 5. She just turned 3mo. I thought the same thing when ppl told me baby will sleep! In what world? Lol. Love her though. You have a cutie!

Thanks, all! Glad to know Evelyn isn’t the only non-Napper! I’m going to start putting her down in her crib for naps, hopefully we can get into a schedule. While she’s mostly happy during the day, once it gets within an hour of bedtime she is just so miserably tired. I think a good nap during the day will help that. If she wasn’t sleeping so great at night is be worried about her not sleeping enough!
