“I’ve got a surprise for you” before a weekend away–I was jumping out of my skin that whole week, and it was a box of nice chocolate. Laughing

@BurlapnLace:  I think when you get to that stage of the relationship, there should be a moratorium on promising vague “surprises” unless they’re the proposal! Lol! Just give me the chocolate if you want to, don’t build it up for a week!

Ugh.  So many of these for me.

Our trip through Spain, our trip through Austria… our trip to Prague… our trip to Budapest…  our trip to Florence…

Then finally he told me he would love to propose to me on the top of the Eiffel Tower.  A little over played but romantic nonetheless.  We just came back from Paris, waited 4 hours in line to get to the top of the Tower… he kept saying “I can’t believe we are actually here.”  We travel A LOT so why would he say that? Sounds like a proposal rightttt?

No proposal.  Went to the top, took some pics, and went back to our hotel.

  • Wedding: February 2014

@BurlapnLace:  A month before he proposed, at my birthday party, my friends started singing happy birthday and he stopped them and ran into another room.  I was facing away from where he was coming from but heard everyone gasp when he came back in.  I completed freaked out assuming he was proposing.  Turned out he’d lent our friend his violin to play happy birthday to me (she’s an amazing violinist, hence the gasping).  I didn’t even hear her playing I was so freaked out, and I didn’t turn around, which was super odd I’m sure but I didn’t know what to do with myself.  There are photos of me looking totally nonchalant at the moment, I can’t believe I was able to hide my freakout.  When he DID propose I had about 18 reasons to think it was coming but after that experience I wasn’t about to expect anything, so I was caught completely off guard 🙂

  • Wedding: May 2013 - Pavilion overlooking golf course scenery, reception at banquet hall

The only example I can think of was before we ever discussed marriage seriously…

We had tickets to go to a Dallas Mavericks game, one of the first games after they had just won the championship in 2011, and they were going to be receiving their championship rings during a ceremony before the game. Then-boyfriend was SO excited, constantly talking about the “ring ceremony” and one of my work friends remarked that she thought he might “be having his own ring ceremony, if you know what I’m sayin’…” I didn’t really think he’d do it, but I giggled over it with her.

Turns out he was simply excited about the basketball game, hah! I’m glad – sports, yawn. I vaguely pay attention to NHL and college football, but NBA is definitely not my thing.

@BurlapnLace:  No, I’m beginning to realize that I’m in that kind of situation where he probably never will… 🙁

  • Wedding: April 2014

FI and I moved in together after 9 months, the weekend before Thanksgiving, and that Christmas he brought my gift to his sister’s house instead of giving it to me at home that morning. I saw the box and knew what it was, but his nieces saw it and lost their MINDS thinking it was a ring and were secretly telling EVERYONE at the house that they thought Uncle B was going to propose! His aunt pulled him aside before she was going to leave and was like “are you going to propose? Why didn’t you tell me, I don’t want to leave if you’re going to!” and he’s like “What? No!” hahahahaha it was earrings. As soon as I saw the box come out of the car I knew it was either earrings or a necklace. It was definitely NOT a ring box. But hilarious nonetheless. He proposed 11 months later, a few days after Thanksgiving, a year after moving in and adopting our dog. 🙂

@BurlapnLace:  Aw thanks for your positivity.  He is very concerned about his education and money, although it’s always been “next year, babe.” for quite some time.  I have PLENTY of stories that pertain to this though…

Like the one time a few months ago I found a little blue box from Tiffany’s while I was doing his laundry.  I was so excited, put it back, and prepared to wait… It was a graduation present for his sister though…
