I was just wondering bees, what you have purchased for yourself in the past few years that was really expensive and you found you didn't use or like as much as you thought. But...at the time you thought you had to have it! My two are:
Dinair Airbrush Makeup System
GHD (I use it to do soft curls in my hair not even straighten! haha)

I bought a PalmPilot last year....that does exactly the same things as a smart phone. Which I already have. LOL.
Ugh my T3 Featherweight dryer. I could be bitter because it just mysteriously broke but I never felt that it dried my hair twice as fast.

hmmmm. There are DEFINITELY some things I am not proud of. Like the Wii that just sits in our bedroom... not even plugged in. Or the iPod touch (to my defense, I use that every day... just not for music.)
My Burberry Rainboots and matching umbrella. I love them. I pictured using them for our e-pics, or at our wedding in case of rain. I didn't use them for either and it DID rain at our wedding, I had just left the boots at the hotel. Grr. Maybe I should sell them on Ebay.

The other thing I got that I wish I had asked more questions about is my Camry Hybrid. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car, but the trunk is useless because of the hybrid battery (no pass through with the rear seat folded down essentially). I've just upgraded to the Highlander Hybrid and I love it. So if you don't need much trunk space, the Camry is great (and awesome on gas), but it wasn't really as functional as I wanted it to be :(
a $200 burberry wallet. that i spilled diet coke on a month after i got it. it's still functional, but isn't nearly as pretty now.
$250 designer jeans that are now too big and I think I wore them 10 times. Not a good idea.
$300 "bitch" boots that are gorgeous, but I've only worn them twice. In my defense, they don't work so well with my current "looking for work" lifestyle or my previous lifestyle which involved a 2 hour one way commute on transit. Still...not my finest moment.
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Want to buy them?! LOL! Size 9 and they have a matching $150 umbrella. Who in their right mind spends $150 on an umbrella?! Seriously, I must have been on crack that day....
Can I say my first wedding dress? I don't know what got into me. At the time, I thought OMG, it's gorgeous! This is THE DRESS!! I didn't even hesitate to pull out my credit card, and that is very unlike me. I usually think through big purchases very carefully and do a ton of research. I guess I was just high on my first wedding dress shopping trip. I can't tell you how much better it makes me feel to see posts from so many two-dress or three-dress bees. I mean I don't want other bees to feel badly about their purchases, because I know how stupid I feel about mine, but it does help to reassure me that I'm not the only one who has made a mistake.
My wedding gown. $2500. What a waste of money. I wish that I had been smarter about trying on every dress under the sun until I found something cheaper!
@bakerella:I'll give you that $150 for an umbrella is a little steep.
But those boots are GREAT! I think you should not sell them and that you should wear them every single rainy day and smile each time you look at your feet.
Oh and I forgot- my original wedding dress!! Its never been altered or worn, and its just hanging in the closet. I've posted it a couple times but no one has been interested :(
@bakerella - I totally would, but I am little size 5 :-) I would wear them for our outdoor pics! I am going to Nordstrom's for black Friday, so maybe I can see what they have there!
@MrsSl82be: almost knee high black boots. Mine have a heel, but that's not a necessary feature.
I bought my first pair in high school during a pseudo-goth phase and my mother said "Those are butt-kicking boots. They are bitch boots" when I brought them home. Thus, ever since, boots fitting a similar description have been called "bitch boots" in my house. They are not to be confused with "hooker boots" which are a different story. lol
My Nintendo DSi. Not super crazy expensive, but I definitely don't use it often enough to justify the price.
sooo many things. Marc Jacob's purse, malano blaniks heels which I have never worn cuz they hurt my feet. $800 jacket that is too small for me. bunch of makeup from Sephora... I guess I should really stop shopping.
My wedding dress--I think I could have found something under budget if I waited a little longer, but of course I went over budget. I still can't say how much I spent on it without wincing.
I would have to say my large yellow coach bag with the price tag of $498.
I was so excited at the beginning of spring 05 when I saw it, that I snatched it up and bought it.
5 years later, I have worn it one time. And thats only because my sister said "if you're not going to wear it, then take it to the goodwill." So I wore it that day.
You know what.... I really know how to waste money :(
My $2300 Chanel bag.... I don't use it everyday as to not wear it out, but I still do love it...I had won $3K at the slot machines at the Atlantis in the Bahamas, so I just went and did it! Def won't be spending that type of money on a bag again though!
We booked a backpacking trip around the UK with plane tickets and everything then only went on half the trip. It worked out better in the end but we still lost deposits and we had bought a connecting train trip twice because the original tickets were lost. I can now laugh about it but at the time it was a little hard.
@bakerella: "I must have been on crack that day" Hilarious!
I feel that way about the $400 I spent at the Chanel counter one day on a small bottle of perfume, some make up and nail polish.. Really? Who needs Chanel nail polish?
OMG I have a few $25 bottles of Chanel nail polish, why do I keep thinking thats ok??
@LGenz: Because it's pretty and they have special edition colors! lol - I think i'll go home and paint my toes tonight, it hasn't been used in a couple months. Don't you love the cute carrying case they come in if you buy more than 3?
I hate to say this because I love it so much...but, my laptop. I bought it with almost twice the memory I'm actually using and I just really put too much into it. :(
Probably my PS3. I only wanted it for one game and we've had it two years and still only own that one game. I justified the purchase since I could use it as a BlueRay and get on the internet. We don't use it for either. The only thing we do with it is watch Netflix on Demand which we can also do on our Wii.
I'm frugal and am having a really hard time thinking of anything. I make large purchases without thinking, rethinking, and then re-rethinking. My problem is I'll make a lot of little purchases for things I don't need because it's a good price or I'll buy a less then ideal product because I can get it at walgreen's and don't have to face the crowds at the regular store.
Plenty of designer purses that I don't really use..but granted, the only saving grace is that I got them on sale....and 2 pairs of super pointy high heel boots, high ones-up to the your knees and low ones, covering the ankle, that I hardly wear b/c it's so hard to walk in them...but they look good on!
These are all in the "gotta-have-them" category....;-) I do take a look at them now and then.....
@LGenz: This should make you feel better I bought black Chanel nail polish here in America then when I was in Ireland I decided that the black Chanel nail polish looked different so now I am the owner of two bottle of black Chanel nail polish. Neither have been used in about the last year.
My car (2008 Chevy Malibu) - I love it, but the stereo system has a mysterious "bug". I've had the driver's side front speaker replaced twice (in the last 10 months). The rear driver's side speaker and radio replaced last week. And the rear driver's side speaker currently only plays the bass (no vocals). So now they're ordering me a new amplifier. Thank goodness this happened 3 weeks BEFORE my warranty expired!
@bohemianbailie: Lol thats awesome. I will say I do not regret picking up "kaleidoscope", the bottle goes for like $50-70 on ebay.
Agent Provocateur's raincoat. *sighs* Like it rains in California. I love it though!
@ArwenBride: thanks for the explanation! I always wanted a pair of those boots, and since I have finally jumped on the skinny jean bandwagon, I think I need to invest in some, maybe on black friday ;)
@Jerseygirl23: absolutely! I bought it to use on the floors, but I can't use it on the floors we have now
The Purchase of Regret that makes my stomach sick: A $2,000 pair of Tod's alligator loafers. Turns out I'm not a loafer type and I think I wore them twice. Tried to recoup a little of that money on eBay and got one $100 bid. I took it.
I was feeling like a jerk that my first thought was "my wedding dress". What a relief to see that other bees feel the same way. Even though I love my dress and FH kept telling me that the price was "completely reasonable for a wedding gown", I still sometimes think about the fact the dress double my original budget and I'll only be wearing it for about 8 hours.
