    I came across this article about the most popular baby names in Canada [and I'm sure some of you may have read it already] but I thought it was interesting as you so often see web sites with the top names from US social security and whatnot.

    Also here are the top 100 from 2009 from babycenter.ca

    I was surprised to see a few on there I'll admit, but others I expected. It's interesting how the name choices compare from north and south of the border :)

    Hooray!  None of my boys names are on the list!  That's what we get for choosing Dutch names for them!  lol!  A variation of my DD's name is on the list, but not her version.

    D'oh! Both boys and girls names that I liked (and really didn't think people were using often) are on that list :(.

    Very similar to the US, eh?  It was nice to see a few different names on the list though, like Jasmine and Naomi :)  Was sad to see that the dreaded Nevaeh even made it up your way, though!

    I feel like the names I like are on both lists. They are not overly popular but I guess just nice names. I feel like they have a wide variety of traditional versus not. Someone should start a thread of names that you named your child that are unusual.

    My daughter's name made top twenty which is right about where she is in the US. It was top five the year I had her (04) but I had loved the name my whole life and was not going to let Miley Cyrus ruin it for me.

    @BanditGirl:

    I was pretty happy that my son's name wasn't on the list, even though I personally feel it's a 'common'/well known name.

    @Prettyinpink89:

    there were a few names I was a little bummed to see so high up on the lists, but I am sure name trending will change a little when all the stats for 2010 come out.

    @Mrs. DG:

    there really are quite a few similarities aren't there?

    I can honestly say I still don't quite know how to even pronouce Nevaeh!

    They say it Nuh-vay-uh.  It doesn't sound pretty and it's a silly idea.  I love that the correct spelling and the misspelling are both in the top 100 in the US.

    @Mrs. DG: You forgot to add the obligatory “it’s Heaven, spelled backwards” after. I’ve never heard someone say the name Neveah without that catchphrase attached.  ;-)

    I can't believe people actually use the name Neveah.  :/  I thought this was an urban myth...

    @Mrs. DG:  I've honestly never heard the name Neveah until a few months ago when a friend's teenage sister got knocked up and chose that name for her baby.  Apparently it's super popular but I must be living under a rock because I had literally never heard it before.

    I have a student this year named Miangel Love.  I think Nevaeh could be her sister : )

    @Meowkers:  Come to any NICU.  You'll find 2 or 3 of them there at any given time!  (not exaggerating).  Of course you'll find a lot of Miracle, Destiny, Faith and Hopes in there too, not to mention Chablis, Courvassier and Champagnes.

    You might be able to figure out which group is the high risk parents and which group is religious!

    @Mrs. DG:

    that is completely different than what I would have ever guessed the pronounciation would be. It certainly doesn't sound very pretty phonetically/in my head :/

    @missmouse29:  I read the article also and i have to say i love the website and how you can find the top five names in your postal code.  i'm sure it'll come in very handy down the line, once we do have kids.

    I agree with Neveah, not my style. However I don't think all car names are bad! My brother is Bentley and I like it...but that could be because I'm biased :P

    My son's name isn't on there, and we have yet to meet anyone with his name! I live in Alberta, and on the Alberta Statistics website it will tell you how many babies in Alberta were born with what name each year. The year my son was born, he was one of 4 Bostons and there were none the year before or after him. My daughter Addyson is on the most popular girls name list :(

     Ethan is my most hated boys name. Even though one of my favourite charaters in a novel is named Ethan...I still just can't stand it. And Neveah...uggggh. I'd rather have people name their kids Angel or Apple.

    I love the name Oliver. I think it was nubmer one in the UK and is climbing in the US.

    FI and I talked about using it as a middle name.
