Mother is worried about her dress… it's black…

My MIL and I noticed a lot of mother of the bride/groom dresses out there are black so I think it’s safe to say it’s really common. I personally don’t think anything of it or would have cared except our wedding was outdoors in lush gardens and trees with the ocean as our backdrop so all I asked was no black for my mom and MIL which they took no issue with because they didn’t plan on wearing black anyways.

My only concern with your description was the sheer ish panels? Do you have a picture of the dress?

My mom wore black, and I had a July wedding.  So did my sister (who was my MOH) and my MIL — and the guys, so yeah, everyone!  🙂  We wanted a really classic ivory/black theme and I think it totally worked.  The “can’t wear black to a wedding” thing is out-dated … she absolutely can!  Your mom’s dress looks perfect in my opinion!

My MIL wore a black dress with gold beading.  It was very nice.

my mother and mother in law both wore black dresses.. I think they felt it was more flattering of a color on their figures. my mother added a gold flower brooch and a belt to her dress, and a gold hairpiece and shoes to match.. and my mother in law had silver detailing on the top part of her dress.. they both looked great.. she can make it look less dreary with the accessories!

When I read your original description of the dress, I was convinced your mom and my mom had purchased the same dress haha! My mom bought a pink dress online at first, but purchased the dress pictured below earlier this week and she’s in love with it, as am I. If she loves it, and you’re cool with it then it’s not a big deal. No one will think that she looks somber or in mourning when they see her beaming smile as she watches you get married! They’ll just see a proud MOB who looks fab in a lovely dress, that happens to be black 🙂

Here’s the dress my mom bought:

I swear we spent more time on finding my mom a dress than we did mine!  My mom’s favorite was black too & she felt like she couldn’t wear it. She ended up with a different dress but I was 100% okay with her wearing a black dress!

Traditional etiquette says no, contemporary is fine with black. I’ve seen quite a few MOB or MOG dresses that were mostly black and have no issue with it. Your opinion is obviously the one that counts.

That said, the panels may just be faux sheer, but I’m still not a fan.

My MIL wore a black dress and I loved it. Thought she looked fab. Nothing at all wrong with it
