i know the feeling my mom is 75 and a size 22 i don't feel that she should spend a fortune but there's slim picking out there if you come up with anything please post i too could use the help. I don't know if they hava a syms in your area but that's where we may start looking.
I was in an Alfred Angelo store the other day and they had some great options.. hope you find what you're looking for!
I sent you a private message. My mother ended up with a beautiful and elegant mother of the bride dress after we went through the same dilema. She's looking to re-sell hers now.
Several designers also have their dresses in Plus Sizes...Cameron Blake dresses are really nice.
My FMIL got hers at Nordstrom's...but she's not a plus size. My mom is a pluz size and I kid you not, she found hers in perfect condition at a thrift store. If she doesn't find what she's looking for at AA, she might just take a look at some consignment stores.
I'd say to try David's. That's where my mom got hers. It's a bridesmaids' dress but doesn't look like one IMO. And they have tons of different MOB dresses too.
My mom is a size 20 BTW.
Try Group USA they had lots of nice mother dresses when I went there
Thanks for the info ladies. My mom went to David's but didn't like anything she found. I'll keep checking the other suggestions. Thanks bunches!
Oh & bridedenise I PM'd ya back. ;)
oh boy, did my mom and I have fun with the mob shopping bonanza...if you're in new york hopefully you have plentiful department store options. we went EVERYWHERE- even from detroit to toledo looking for her dress and she ended up finding one at nordstrom. on their website you can even narrow down your search to plus-size:

I would try Nordstrom.com, Macy's, or Saks. My mom found a dress at Saks that looked amazing. It was a bit on the expensive side, but she can wear it to any cocktail party, wedding, or special event in the future.
Oh I can totally relate. My mom is a little big bigger, 1x/2x or 16/18 about. And well, she didn't want to show off arms or legs so it really limits her choices and it's hard enough when shopping in the plus size department for "finery" as my mom and grandma call it. She tried on the long dresses but it didn't do anything for her figure... just made her look bigger I thought. Then I saw a nice dress top by Alex Evenings at Macys (also carried at Nordstroms). It was perfect and she already had some dressy pants! There are so many mom's that are in this category so I'd love to help out!
Realize this may be a little late but might be helpful to other plus size moms. Jan's Boutique carries sizes 0 to 28. They also have a lot in stock to try on if you are in the NJ/PA/NY area.
We had great luck at Nordstrom's. They had wonderful evening separates that weren't on the website. I highly recommend checking them out. We also found some great evening separates at Lord & Taylor.

My mom doesn't want a "Mother of Bride" dress and I can't say I blame her - ugh, have you guys started looking at these things?!? They're a JOKE! It's like a never ending conveyor belt of bad rejects from Dallas or Falcon's Crest (did I just date myself? LOL - whoops).
The really nice dresses are like 2-3grand and while that might be ok for a bridal gown, it's a little crazy for my mom to spend that much.
She's prob older than most of your moms (she's 71) and she's a bigger woman (22w). I found this at Alfred Angelo which we both really like so she's going to go & try it on. I suggested while she's there she try on some of the other plus-size separates, and then she can add a jacket or a wrap because she wants to cover her arms.
But does anyone have any other suggestions on where to look? David's Bridal has a couple that she kinda liked. I'm doing some research on plus-size bridesmaid dresses but does anyone have any other suggestions on where to look??
