UK Bride started her induction process already, so she might not get in here soon, but Razzzzz is also expecting twins. Congratulations! DH and I were kind of hoping for twins but found out for sure today that there’s only 1 in there.

My cousin had twins a bit over a year ago, it sounds exhausting. He and his wife were just about always holding one or the other because as soon as one would go down the other would start fussing. The one thing they did that I thought was a really good idea is that they assigned colors. One twin was pink and the other was purple. When they were born they were so small that the hospital bands fell right off of them, but they were still able to tell them apart because they painted their toenails with the assigned colors. The girls are a bit over 1 now and are adorable, I am definitely contemplating having twin flower girls at my wedding 😉

i’m a twin, and my mom said (and it may sound nuts), it was way easier with two than one. She said we entertained and helped eachother, but also got into a lot of trouble together lol

I asked her what about the double feedings and diaper changes ect, and she saidit just comes with time,

Congrats on the news! You’ll make a fantastic momma!

Hi!  I’m having twins!  I’m 14 weeks, 5 days now, due February 28th.  I’m so early in the process that unfortunately I can’t offer much advice.  We can cheer each other along as we go!  How far along are you?

@Hippos:  My twins are 6 years and 6 months old.

I’d recommend the book When You’re Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads. The nutritional guidelines in there are good but extremely difficult to meet. You gain weight differently with twins than a singleton.  The book tells about delivery some as well as possible complications. I kept the book in case my next pregnancy is twins again.

Best wishes and congratulations!

@Hippos:  you’re not far behind me at all! Yay for having a twin partner in crime!  How has your 1st tri been? Hope it hasn’t been too bad.  Either way, it sounds like you’re probably almost through the worst.  I was very fortunate and felt pretty good throughout.  I only felt nauseous a few times, but never actually got sick. Mostly, I was just very tired and went to bed quite early.  Around 11-12 weeks I started to feel much better.

The best piece of advice I’ve received so far was from my SiL who has 10 year old twin girls. She advised me to join a local mother of multiples group.  She said it was quite helpful to have that resource of moms going through the same stuff that you are going through.  I googled mothers of multiples groups in my city and found one to join.  I only just joined a week or so ago, but so far I think it’s going to be great.  The group has forums where you can discuss childcare in your city, organize play groups, and ask whatever twin question you may have.  just wanted to pass that tidbit along as something you may want to consider.  I love the bee, but it is nice to have somewhere to go to get info from lots of mamas who know about twins.

how are you doing coping with the news of the twins? It definitely took me several weeks to get over my shock.  Hubby was a little more okay with it since he had seen his brother go through the same things.  I’m excited now, just a bit anxious about what to expect.

@Spottts:  I’ve heard this book come up a lot as a great reference for twin mamas! I think I’ll have to get it!

Never been pregnant with twins but I have twin brothers (younger).  My mom cried when she found out!

All I know about the pregnancy is that she gained about 41 pounds and they told her that was the perfect amount.  Also I don’t think she had any morning sickness with me but she did with the twins (even more hormones I’m guessing).  She never had any complications but I’m sure it was overwhelming at first!  I was 3-4 when they were born so I don’t remember much of the early stuff.

Good luck!

@Hippos:  I have also been recommended those two books. I heard there is a babywise video and I think I may go that route so that DH and I can watch it together.
