Last year I moved from Los Angeles to North Carolina. I lived in a one bedroom apartment so I knew a full truck was not needed. So I had two other options, some will do a partial truck and the other was pods. I chose the pods (cheaper for me than the partial truck). Basically they drop off a "pod" at your house, you fill it up at your leasure then schedule them to come back and pick it up. They can delivery it right to your door at your destination or to save some moeny I had mine delivered to the distribution center and I rented a uhaul and emptied it out. There are two main companies that do the pods, first is actually named Pods and the second is U-Pack. I went with U-pack becuase over various sites on the internet they had better reiviews. It worked out great. No complaints, the people were nice to work with and my stuff arrived safely. Their website is
www.upack.com.
The other thing i had to consider was my car. I chose to fly as I did not have the time to drive and had a cat to transport. That took longer to find a reputable and reliable car transport service. I found 1st Call Auto Haul (www.1stCallAutoHaul.com). i delt with eric the owner and he was great. i could go into more detail about car transport (broker vs nonbroker, etc.) but dont know if you need that. Let me know and I can.
Basically, do some searches on google for transportation reveiws. i found a few sites that were dedicated to reviews about transporation and moving companies. They really helped me make the decision. I would give you the links but they are not on this computer. I can look for you if you want though. But as you narrow down choices these sites provide valuable information.
Good Luck.
When I moved from Georgia to California, I packed and shipped my own stuff via UPS so can't help you much there.
BUT.. if you need to ship your car, I used 4 corners (http://www.fourcornerstransportservices.com/). They had the best deal & reviews and I had a great experience with them.
I've ran into a few bad ones in the past (complained to BBB) so I would recommend checking this site first.(http://www.transportreviews.com/)

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I am moving from Berkeley, CA to Chicago, IL after our wedding. Does anyone have any recommendations for movers? I checked the BBB but I am not sure which to choose. I have heard sooo many bad stories.
TIA!
