Wow big news! My DH and I are moving to Richmond soon! Actually in 2 weeks so he can go to MCV. Any advice on the area? We're living hopefully by Forest Hill Park.
Ah! I work literally down the street from the Microsoft office in Cambridge, MA.
There's no way you won't get a generous moving package - the moving packages for corporate offices in Cambridge are pretty standardly amazing (my department is in the middle of moving right now, and I know a lot of people who have moved into the area).
If you have any questions about the area, feel free to PM me!
Good luck with the move! VA to MA is a huge adjustment. I think you should go with him, it would be an adventure!
i'm in the same boat. FI is headed to SC in a couple weeks, but i'm staying behind with the condo in IL. bought him a plane ticket to fly back here for the wedding. i'm going to get out of here as quickly as i can despite this market being absolutely HORRIBLE to sell in. goodbye, savings.
@Rgeddy: Oh goodness! I work at MCV/VCU in the ID office! I love it here. What kind of stuff do you like to do? Pets? Shopping? Art? Food? So much stuff!
@crayfish: He atleast needs something though! He has 3 jobs, but they're all going towards bills as we took turns, while he was in school, I worked, and so now it's my turn, but that might have to wait now! Is it cold up there? I love baseball, so if we go, I'll be sad to leave our local team, but would love an MLB team so close! Also, is rent or buy better?
@PitBulLover: it's kind of exciting, my moms side of the family is from up there and my grandfather (who my moms side didn't even tell me died, long drama filled story) so i've never gotten to see his grave. It'll be nice. But I'm so scared of cold weather! Well scared isn't the right word. More like... I hate it! It'd be nicer if it was like Georgia!
@qwerty1: I'll be in Charlotte next week! Almost NC. So did he just leave all the wedding to you? And then fly back and be surprised by it all?
@gogogiraffes: Oh yay! My FI is in school there!
Can you sublet/lease/rent your apartment out? That way it is still in your name and you won't have to give up the homebuyer credit.
@RayRayFurious: it says in the contract it has to be primary residence for 36 months. No rental, job, or anything, buy a second home. Or if i die.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
SO just graduated from VCU with a BFA in graphic design. He's done a few odd jobs, and is freelancing for a company now.
He recently (about a month ago) on a whim applied for a job with microsoft in Massachusates. Today he had a phone interview, and his recruiter said that he really liked him and would recommend him for the job.
Not sure if I'm going to relocate with him. Since I just (2 years in sept) bought my apartment, granted it is close to the campus, easy rental property. But also, first time homebuyer credit is in effect until 2012 which means I have to keep it my primary property or pay back that credit.
I told SO to ask if there was going to be any relocation funds given to him, because that is a big move, not just across the town.
So big news for us! Probably will throw a wrench in any engagement/wedding plans that come up.
