Hi girls! I'm moving across the country and was wondering what sort of moving trucks you've used before. I'm only moving one bedroom, but I need something bigger than a regular truck/van because of several (five) large bookshelves plus everything else from the past 25 years of my life (oh. em. gee!).

Your suggestions, past experiences with moving are MUCH appreciated!

I got a U-haul to move from Philly to Ohio, about 600 miles. They had a lot to choose from as far as sizes go and allowed me to do a one-way move. This was almost 2 years ago and I think it cost around $500. I looked at other brands and this was the best option I found.

The biggest help was having some help loading it correctly so things didn't shift, as well as having someone capable of driving such a large vehicle that's weighed down with so much stuff.

If you don't think a large U-Haul would work, you could check out one of the U-Pack companies. I used ABF to move from NE to MA, and they dropped off an enclosed trailer at my apartment which I packed my self, then they pick it up and transport it for you. Definitely more space than a U-Haul, but it can be a bit pricey. I think I paid about $1800 to move all my stuff.
Maybe check out PODS also might be a good option for you.

there's also budget. their trucks are a little bit bigger than uhaul and a little cheaper. you can always get the companies to do a price match war and get the best price that way. Laughing

Definitely compare prices between UHaul and Budget...I've used UHaul in the past and they have a lot of truck sizes to choose from.
