Hello fellow bees!  Need some suggestions.  My life is quite complicated right now - here's the deal. I'm currently living in Connecticut and my fiance is living in California.  We are getting married in Michigan in June.  I am moving to California - leaving March 1st (woo hoo!).  The problem is,  my wedding dress is supposed to arrive to the store here in CT at the end of Feb/beg of March.  Ideally it will get here before I leave for CA so I can get alterations and then drop it off in Michigan for the wedding.  But, if it gets here after we leave for CA - what are my options for getting it altered?  Have them ship it to CA - have it altered and then bring it on the plane with me to MI for the wedding?  Have them ship it to CA, get the alterations, ship it to MI so it will be there for me when I arrive for the wedding?  Does it make more sense for me to keep it with me in CA and then fly with it to MI?  I'd rather not have my dress being shipped all over the country....

    help!

I would get it altered in CA and take it with me to Michigan. Once in Michigan you can find some to steam out the wrinkles.   I am thinking this mostly because I wouldn't trust to send my dress around the country.

I'm in a similar situation.  I purchased my dress in Massachusetts and then also moved to California.  I'm having my alterations done in Massachusetts -- but that's where I'm from, and I go back to visit fairly regularly.  It seems like in your case, bringing (or shipping) your dress to Michigan might be a good option.  As long as you anticipate flying back there once or twice, and getting alterations done at that time.  Otherwise, if you don't have many trips planned to Michigan, then maybe you should get your alterations done in Cali, and just fly with your dress to the wedding.  Just be aware that it's kind of a pain to fly with a wedding dress.

thanks for the suggestions - i won't have any trips to michigan before the wedding.  im actually hoping the dress won't need to be altered - its a maggie sottero w/ a corset back so its kind of adjustable - and the length seems like it is going to be just right so I can vary the hight of my shoes to keep from having to alter it.  but i do need to get it bustled.

can wedding dresses be brought on the plane as carryon?
