DH and I need to move our belongings (probably studio apt size b/c we're getting rid of a lot of our stuff before we move - maybe even less than studio) from the West Coast to the Midwest.  Unfortunately, we aren't going to be able to go the Uhaul route and drive it ourselves.   We can pack and and unpack ourselves though.

So do we have any moving experts in the hive?  Any suggestions for moving companies that won't totally break the bank?  Any idea of how much we should expect to pay?

    Thank you, ladies!!

Omg paying a moving company to pack you, move you, and unpack you is a blessing. It's cake...absolutely cake.

My parents hired a company to move our boxes from Cali to the Midwest, though. But boy there was lots to unpack! They used Dodge. My company paid for me to use the Two Men And a Truck and they did a great job, too!

If you are going with a professional moving company, you probably want to have them pack everything.  They will not cover anything that is broken if you packed it yourself.  I don't have any specific companies to recommend but I would make sure that you get references from the companies if possible.

    Thanks, ladies.

We are going thru everything and getting rid of TONS of stuff, which is why it doesn't really make sense to pay for packers.  Plus, we're storing it rather than actually unpacking and moving in.

    Has anyone used POD?

You can still go through stuff and have movers.  But having things stored poses a problem.  I think Pods would be a good idea, if they really do what they say.  It probably depends on where you are located since they are probably owned independently.

I've had 2 long-distance moves.  Used Stevens both times and had very good experiences.  It cost us $4800 to move a 2 bedroom apt from Chicago to Atlanta.  That included extra insurance because we packed ourselves (cheaper than having them pack).  You obviously have a lot more distance, but weight is a huge factor.  Also, even if your company isn't paying for it but does have a relocation service, you may be able to get a discount through them.
