i’ve been researching moving truck rentals and boy are they expensive! i’m trying to find a cheap way to move my stuff to my FI’s apartment (that’s a 10 hour drive). i unfortunately have too much for my little sedan so i’ve been looking at large vans/suvs, moving trucks, or trailers. i suppose i could also get drastic with what i’m packing and get rid/donate a lot of stuff but i actually don’t have that much as it is and it’s all stuff i use. i think the real issue has been furniture items. while i can take a part most and lay them flat, there isn’t enough room for that AND the boxes in my car.
i’m not looking to move my stuff out until november so i have some time but it is kinda stressing me out. what has anyone else done?

I think you should rent a U-haul or something similar (as long as you have people that can help you move things where you are now and where you will be later). When we moved, we had a moving company do everything (they were hired by the govt and completely sucked). If we were to move again, I would probably hire my own moving company on the govt’s dime instead of trusting their judgement.

How about renting one of those Large vans from any car rental service… You could look into having things shipped also, My parents UPS stuff back to their house in Florida from NY when they are ready to go back for the winter…. or just hire a moving company to move all your stuf for you.. We had a truck when we moved so we only had to rent the hitch part we didnt have to run a whole truck

Yes i would go with a u-hal. We used a moving company last time and they broke half of my dishes!! I just don’t trust people to take care of our stuff. It’s like they dont care -They just throw the boxes around, regardless of if it says fragile or not.
