Please help! My boyfriend and I are heading to phuket in August and he seems to be hinting at a proposal while we are there (trying not to get my hopes up!) but we are due to land on the 8th and my period will start on the 9th, I’ve had the mirena for 9 months and am like clockwork, I have always been like clockwork but I was wondering is there anyway to move my period forward a week? I get REALLY bad cramps a day or two before and don’t want to have to deal with that on the flight, I also mentioned to the bf that I would be starting and he got really concerned that it would be at the beginning of our holiday not the end (I’ve always said if he proposes on holiday he has to do it in the beginning so we can enjoy it for the rest of the holiday not at the end haha) I will phone my Dr asap but just wanted some advice from the ladies!

With just the Mirena itself, you obviously can’t do anything about your period. You can’t alter the Mirena.
You could potentially take birth control pills on top of the Mirena to alter your period, but I don’t know how healthy that would be. I was on both initially when I first got mine inserted without any problems, but obviously get a doctors opinion.
Lots of people don’t have any period with Mirena, maybe you’ll get lucky and won’t have one by August? Fingers crossed?

Thanks Sithlady! (Love your username)
I went and saw my doctor today and she said she could put me on a low dose oral contraceptive but because I will be flying she’s worried about deep vein thrombosis so has given me a script for progeterone I will start the course 3 days before my period and then take them until I get home, as soon as I’ve finnished the course it will start, but theres only an 80% chance that this will be effecive.
fingers crossed the mirena kicks in and stops them or that the progesterone works!
