I wouldn’t be looking to work in Philly from there. It will take you at least an hour and a half just to get to Philly from that area, and in the summer, it could take you 3 hours to get back home. Too much travel!

I’d search in AC before venturing farther out.

FI’s parents live in South Jersey – Cherry Hill.  That’s a really nice area, I think they’re about 20 mins from Philly and about 30 mins from AC.

This is entirely your choice, but personally, I wouldn’t move really close to a city where I don’t have a job yet if my FI is going to end up with a long commute.  You don’t know how long it will take for you to find a job and if you will even find one in Philly at all. My FI and I moved and I’m the one employed and even though we could have been really close to Charlotte (or Columbia) where we see a lot of postings, we stayed within a 25 minute commute to my job – he will find something and if it’s too far, we will move again to make it work.  But in the meantime, we’ve been here nearly 8 months and he hasn’t found anything yet.. that would have been really unfair to me if my commute was like 45 minutes for the possibility that he have a job elsewhere.

I think the only way to get that close is to actually live IN the city. Nothing on this side of the Delaware will get you that short of a commute. Maybe look in Collingswood, Haddon Twp., Cherry Hill…..not Camden, Pennsauken, or Delair,Delanco…the commute will be farther for him, tho. Maybe split the difference and look in Washington Twp.?

Cherry Hill is at least an hour from AC…

@StL.Ashley:  Well, I certainly hope that you have the same luck again, of course!  But, we haven’t had that luck.  I applied for over a year (although, I was relocating – you will have already relocated) before I even got an interview.  The legal field is a little different, too, though.  Not sure if you’re a lawyer.

@StL.Ashley:  There’s an aquarium in Camden you might want to check out, or if you’re thinking of heading closer to the shore a zoo in Cape May.

@StL.Ashley:  I ditto a few other posters. I would not move close to Philly banking on the idea that you might be working there. I think you should rent an apartment closer to Egg Harbor and then if after a year you are in Philly, then you guys can relocate. However, with what you do I don’t think you’ll need to be in Philly, you could probably find a job in Atlantic City, Princeton area, Cherry Hill, etc.

As far as where to live, Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Haddonfield, Collingswood, Mt. Laurel, etc are all very nice areas.

@StL.Ashley:  My FI and I live in Sewell, but we’re pretty much Washington Twp. We’re literally in the heart of WT (WT high school is 2 minutes away)! Our mailing address doesn’t say it which is good cause our taxes are much lower.  There are other neighboring towns like Turnersville which offer the same thing.  I love our area, we have everything we need near by.  45 minutes from AC and 20-30 from Philly.  Good luck with the hunt, hope I didn’t confuse you any more.  Message me if you have any questions

Townships are abundant here (and PA as well).  They are large areas, I think the min. square mileage for them is around 37 miles, and they can encompass several cities/towns.  They aren’t counties, they are smaller than that, but they take on a lot of the same functions.  The Twp usually provides police, fire, etc. I work in one town, but it’s part of a larger township, and they provide all the road upkeep, emergency services, etc rather than the town.
