Mr. & Mrs. Jim Smith is the “correct” way to do it. For unmarried individuals or ones with different last names, it’s Mr. Jim Smith & Ms. Elizabeth Jones.

We’re changing things up (we like to be progressive) to Mrs. and Mr. 🙂

We’re also including the wife’s name… for example:

Mrs. and Mr. Jane and John Doe

I didn’t like that the wife wasn’t equally represented in the standard way. I do think the standard sounds better, though.

AndysCraftsNmore:  I’m American so I’ll reply from that perspective. I was taught by my family as well as teachers growing up that the proper way to address married couples in writing (who use the same last name!) is Mr. & Mrs. HisFirstandLastName. 

Maybe it’s not the most progressive but it’s how I’ve always seen it done.
