- Wedding: November 2011
We were married in Place Dauphine by one of our photographer’s friends. DH and I wrote the ceremony together by splicing from several sources.
___ and ____ we are here today to celebrate one of life’s greatest moments, the uniting of two people in matrimony.
We come to marriage as separate persons, who, through love and affection, unite their lives in a common purpose. Marriage, as in life, challenges us to find the best in each other, to learn from each other, and to deepen our love, compassion and understanding of each other.
____, are you ready to enter into this marriage with ____, believing the love you share and your faith in each other will endure all things?
Please face each other and take each other’s hands, so that you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes to you. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will join your family as one. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it, support and encouragement to pursue your dreams, and comfort through difficult times.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
____, please repeat after me:
I ____ take you ____ to be my wife/husband
my partner in life and my one true love
I will love you more each day than I did the day before
I will trust you and respect you,
laugh with you and cry with you,
loving you faithfully through good times and bad
regardless of the obstacles we may face together
I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward
And for as long as we both shall live
The exchange of wedding rings is an outward symbol of an inward bond uniting two loyal hearts in love for eternity. It is the seal of the vows you two have made to one another. It symbolizes living together in unity, love and happiness for the rest of your lives.
____ please repeat after me:
With this ring I give you my heart
I promise from this day forward you will not walk alone
May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home
____ and ____, because you have promised each other the joy of all your days, it gives me great honor to now pronounce you husband and wife.
____ you may now kiss your beautiful bride!
By the time the ceremony was over, a crowd had built up. Neither of us realized until they started clapping and cheering after our kiss!
During the hands ceremony our officiant cried. I cried during our vows and DH fought the tears!!
