OMG she is the cutest little thing.  There has been a bit of progress in the ring shopping etc.  We did go to a jewelry store that was next to the bank and I discovered i really DON'T like most of the designs I emailed him Surprised... i dislike swiss cut topazes and prefer a more petite design with lots of diamonds.. this is one that i tried on that i really liked.  but M said it was just "okay" it wasn't priced appropriately and i didn't like that, but that's also M's thing and i am pretty sure he won't tell me how much he spends etc. M and I made a discovery that I am not sure what I like... and the fact that I have only tried on the aquamarine from sam's and this one really didn't help.. both stones are significantly smaller than what i thought i wanted...

He says when he has the amount and cash in hand he'll just call me one day and say we need to go to the jewelry store or do a surprise thing and we'll just end up there to check everything out.

But on to the cutest thing. EVERY TIME a jewelry commercial comes on M's daughter says DADDY look at that!! Get Brittiny a ring for Christmas. (um i don't talk about rings in front of her.. I'm like hmmm okay what's going on with the 8 year old.  and then my son pipes in yeah in silver gold (he means white gold lol) and an aquamarine.. i can understand that from me he's seen me browsing the jewelry sections of sams lol)...  M just sort of grins... LOL... I think it's happening in a few months (maybe by march or something like that, but we'll see :D)

here's some eye candy from the okay ring... (i have to take a picture for some strange reason to see if i like something, i do it with my business all the time as well lol).... btw rubies are my birthstones...

Was the square cut the cut you liked the best?  Do you still like aquamarine the best as a stone?

It's a really nice ring but when I first opened your post I wasn't sure about the square cut, but then when I go back to look to try and figure out why but it's growing on me.

In conclusion, I'm zero help and confused too.

@bvig: that's the problem i have NO friggin' idea anymore.  yes the cushion cut was my favorite.. and aquamarine i think is my favorite stone. but i also like amethyst, aquamarine, pale blue topaz, rubies evidently.. see the problem lol....

this was the first ring that i have tried on with M and I am glad that i have a picture because i wonder what i'll get??

eta i think i like a thinner band perhaps... my fingers aren't small but the ring i think is too bulky or maybe too square?

and the kids are adorable!  i cannot wait until i become their real stepmom... i adore them...

Maybe it's good that you're open, then you won't have your heart set on just one thing and if it's not it be dissapointed.  The only thing I'd worry about with a darker stone, like a ruby, would be that it wouldn't match with some of my outfits.  But I'm not one to talk because my engagement ring is a big red stone we found on the beach and I wear it with whatever, matching or not.  I think that size looks quite nice for your hand.  And the squares growing on me.  I think part of it is the sales lady has a square ring and the edges are really pointy, and I don't like that kind of square.

Oh and I really like the sparkly band.  The width looks good.  You want a thinner band?

lol i love color!! i didn't even think about it matching my clothes!! LMAO!! my class ring was actually a ruby too and my blackberry is red so maybe i really like red? also my confidence pumps are red gianni binis... maybe i like red the most?!  the pic was taken with my cell phone and the edges are actually rounded more like a cushion and the stone is really flush... i think a thinner band would be good? i dunno it just seemed weird to even put it on.  and he was there and he looked (he wasn't there the entire time but he did come in the store and looked before we left)...

i don't know what i want :( round square, wide, thin, blue red, yellow... ARRGGGH so glad this is his decision... lol!

I think the fact you are so open to different stones and styles is great! Chances are, your openness will mean you will love what you get even more! I am too picky and the fact my SO doesn't want me involved with picking anything is frusterating. I think a classic look with a different/colorful stone may satisfy what you are looking for... whaddaya think? The good news is, anything you don't get in your e-ring could make a nice anniversary ring/birthday/christmas present, etc. I love the idea of a nice aquamarine, ruby, or sapphire. Since, I tend to not take off rings I would be concerned with durability- especially with all those adorable kids! Can I borrow them to convince my boyfriend to propose?

I felt like you too, I was looking at so many different styles online (not realizing FI was ring shopping by himself!) and I just had no clue... then he surprised me with mine, and I love it... so I bet that will happen to you!  & kids are too cute.

@crebre- That happened to me too!!! When I was looking online at rings, I was checking out 2-3 carat rings and then when I tried on that size, it looked ridiculous on my hand lol. I love the way big rocks look on other people but it overwhelms my hand too much. So we ended up looking at .85-1.10 carats and they were perfect! That is so exciting for the progress!!!

Your due date is getting closer lol Last time I checked you thought it wasnt gonna be till your birthday, now its march!! eeeee!

LOL hiya ladies!! I am pushing it back again.. M's job lost his contract so he has to wait to get a new contract (that's right they sent 200 people home today a week before Christmas!!) and 400 more will be leaving by Christmas.

    @DD: they are adorable!!

@politichick: the only thing i am sure about is having a diamond halo setting.  other than that he can go to fun and have a ball with it. and durability doesn't really bother me too much because i am going for flusher mounts (i think lol)

@msmama: they are adorable!! i mean his daughter gets really emphatic about the commercials.... she's like DADDY. get Brittiny that...

@mechiebaby: i know i'll love whatever i get from him whether it's 25 cents or $25,000 because it's from him... i adore him.

@honeybear: strange thing is i have had an engagement ring that was 2.16 ctw from a different relationship and I adored that ring!! but I also told him I wanted it without trying anything else on... i actually didn't even look at anything that large because that's not what i want now.. i know EXACTLY what i am looking for lol..

Cre- so sorry about M's contract. That sucks. I hate it when companies do that right before Christmas. Bright side is you'll have some time with him. Hope he gets a new contract soon!

@crebre...that sort of reminds me of what we do at my company...and also what most banks do. There is some sort of rule that prevents us from keeping contractors on contract for over a year. So we ended all of the contracts around the second week in December and then started them on new contracts around mid January. This is actually the first year we didn't have to do that b/c we converted all of our contract positions to perm. I am sure that they will be calling your BF back in January.

@ja: yeah it sucks but is a product of the economy... he works for a subcontractor and the subcontractor's contract was terminated, not his position if that makes sense?  he has gotten laid off several times this year due to project termination, etc so he'll start with a new position in a few weeks. it just sucks because this is right before christmas, you know....

lol crebre, that happened to me! i told my guy i wanted a three stone ring and he got me one as a promise ring, peridot centerstone [my birthstone] with two diamonds on the side [coincidentally his birthstone...he said to think of it as him hugging me. i mean, awwww?! lol]. i love it and that was the general idea that i wanted for my ering.

well, come time to go shopping and those three-stone rings all fell flat. even he didn't like them! so then i tried on a halo ring, one that i always thought was very pretty but just not for me, and then the clouds parted, we're bathed in light and angels sing. even the boy got excited. we walked of the store and he started making fun of me for changing my mind and not knowing what i wanted. lol. who was i to know that those rings would look different on my hand! this is why i highly recommend ring shopping.

but that's super cute about both your kids putting on the pressure. reminds me of the jewelry commercials! hey! life imitating art!

@crebre...gotcha...that makes sense. It does suck to be let go right before Christmas. I got laid off right before Christmas once and it was not fun. Luckily I had severance so my daughter didn't suffer bu boy did I have to learn how to make a dollar our of fifteen cents. I have my fingers crossed that things will work out in the end for you guys.

Sometimes right after Christmas fake jewelry goes on good sale, maybe you could get a few different shapes/colors and see what grows on you best.  And my favorite color is blue but I freaking love my red engagement ring.

crebre - i love it! and i'm glad M is so involved in the process and wieghing in. HOW EXCITING that you went shopping together! i kinda felt the same way when i actually started to try stuff on. when i was shopping online for e-rings over a year ago (before we even had "the talk"), i fell in love with antiques. then i changed my mind and was thought i wanted a channel setting with an oval center. and every time i went to a different store, i always ended up liking the antique or antique-y looking setting the best... i think i settled on something in the art deco era but even so, i could never settle on just one ring or design i really wanted! i'm kind of excited for the element of surprise though with what BF ends up getting me.

ps - i also love that your kids were so involved with the card exchange! my stone heart melted when i got it!! SOOO cute!

@tea: that sounds so cute about hugging you. i know i like halos, i haven't even tried on ones that haven't had halos because they look naked to me like they are missing something...

@ja: yeah trust me we are definitely going to have to make something happen. luckily i have had a few client meetings today and I give them 7 days to book me afterwards.

@bvig: nah I'll let him decide. I know I like the smaller colored gemstones (around a carat or smaller) surrounded by diamonds versus a hunking piece of jewelry.. well at least I think so lol!!

@dancy she's so hilarious!! she doesn't even discuss that type of thing  (being a flower girl, etc)

@jaxx: oh my style is definitely antique-y... lol i know that much... i sort of like sapphires, but my first engagement ring from my son's dad was a sapphire so i am totally against having one again... i'd feel strange or something i think... and they had SOOOO much fun doing the christmas cards! it was hilarious... some of them are smudged with their finger prints and i decided to send them anyway because the little ones were sooo proud of it...

@redtartan: lol yeah they are adorable little ones... when i woke up i got the biggest hug in the world from them both and i was like hmmm what are they up to lol!!

@professor bee: thanks so much! you are too sweet!!
