I’ve read a lot of reviews about using Mucinex to help with EWCM (I get some, but it varies depending on the month). If you have used/use, when do you begin taking it? I know before ovulation, but how many days before?

Have you talked to your doctor about whether or not Mucinex is safe to take while TTC? There’s always a chance it’s not.
(As a side note, that is the only medicine that has ever helped me with my crazy sinus congestion, so I really hope it is safe – otherwise i’ll be totally miserable in pregnancy for a totally new reason!)

I think Mucinex is just an expectorant – the only active ingredient is Guaifenesin which I don’t think is harmful while TTC.

@Erindesmar: you are right, it is save while ttc
@winniewolf: I have never tried it, but Im thinking about trying it once our preseed runds out. I am also curious to know when to start taking it

Here is an article about it:
I tried it one month, with no results, but I think this month I will try again with the Mucinex 12 hr formula….

So, I bought the 12 hour formula. The article says to start taking it a few days before you know you will O. Since I don’t temp but do use OPKs (and my cycles are anything but clockwork) I guess I’ll start around day 12 or so…and take it until I O. I have had cycles ranging from 30-35 days (with O day only as early as day 18 but as late as 22).
I haven’t seen anything to suggest that taking it for 10+ days is harmful…but will try to research this.

@winniewolf: Another option is start drinking 1-2 cups of green tea every day CD1 – O. It also really helps with EWCM and has the bonus of ridding your body of bacteria that may effect implantation. (You can drink it after O if you want, too, but I don’t drink caffeine during the TWW, so I stop at O.)

TCOYF recommends it to increase EWCM. I’ve used it the last two cycles, and I have noticed more EWCM, although I’m still not pregnant. I don’t think there’s any harm in taking it 10+ days before O’ing, as long as you don’t exceed the daily recommended dosage.
ETA: But I’m not a doctor. If you have any concerns about taking it so many days in a row (I do chart, and started about a week before I ovulated), call your doctor and ask.

Thanks ladies! I have forgotten to take the mucinex so far! It’s CD 13 for me so I’ll probably start taking tomorrow if I can remember. With my O date usually around day 20-22 this should be fine. Also, I have been drinking green tea for the past week or so. Not sure if it is helping, but I feel more healthy
Any other experiences?
