Maybe candalabras? I think those are rentable, so may be doable more easily on a budget.
how many tables? it would be fun to see different 'props' as centerpieces...such as the big windmill, eiffel tower, arc de triomphe, big elephant....or candlebaras!
I saw you were thinking of lanterns, if you have an ikea nearby you could buy the black metal ones they have there, and I think (based on playing with the ones I bought) you could affix red velum to the clear glass panes - maybe buy one and try it (so you don't start any fires during your reception!!

so my centerpieces idea when capoot!! any ideas... preferably no real flowers... im in a budget
