- Wedding: April 2014
It looks like the consensus is that if you register at a whole bunch of places, even if you only want a few things from each place, it looks gift grabby. I can see that logic. But then I also see people with large guest lists talking about replenishing their registries after the shower and before the wedding if a lot of stuff has already been bought. We are going to have a fairly large guest list. My problem is I like a few things here and a few things there… I like having eclectic things.
Do you think it could be acceptable to register at a couple of places at the beginning, but then when everything is bought rather than replenishing, remove all mention of the original registry from the website and sub in a different one?
Hope that’s clear. I mean like we register for a few things at Crate & Barrel now, then once they are bought instead of registering for more random crap there, we close it down and register at West Elm or something instead?
My thinking is based on 13 years of experience as a guest and none as a bride. And as a guest, I want to spend money on stuff that will make the recipient happy for years (and/or I pick the weirdest thing on the registry. Teething giraffe? Mouth suction snot sucker? Dragon steam humidifier? Baby showers are the best!) But then in my limited experience as a bride, I mostly just want lots of people to show up. It’s not that I want a ton of stuff, I just don’t want them to have wasted their money on the stuff they do bring. I’ll hang on to things I hate forever and feel guilty that I don’t use it every time I walk past it.
