Do you have any guests with musical talents? You could maybe ask them, as their gift to you, to perform during the ceremony?
If anyone you know sings, they could sing a capella.
I think the boombox would be fine, but I don't think it's a good idea to have it playing during the ceremony. If you aren't going to have a sound system, it will probably be really hard for your guests to hear you saying your vows and to hear your officiant. If you had music playing it would just make it harder.
If you go the boombox route, then assign someone to start/stop the music at the appropriate times.
If you use an iPod you could use an iPod dock. And I agree that outdoors it's really hard to hear, so no music when people are speaking.

I'm having my ceremony at a park. I have no budget to hire a quartet or a panist. What do you suggest in terms of music? I don't want to look cheap or cheesy - my fiance actually wants to put a boombox on a table and just let it play. What do you think? Thanks!
