I’m curious as to what type of music you played, or are planning on playing, during your cocktail hour. Our reception is a BBQ buffet at a country club, so I’m thinking of something more laid back and casual than your average classical set. We want to be fresh, yet classy. Thoughts?

My daughter’s wedding will be a tented wedding at a country inn – we are aiming for casual elegance – if there is such a term lol. For cocktail hour, we’ll have lots of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Tony Bennet, etc.

@AlyssasMom: +1 these are exactly the artists I plan to have played at my cocktail hour. They are just so classic

Honestly, no one listens to the music during cocktails because they are talking to people. I wouldn’t freak out about this at all.

@soupmachine: We’re planning to use Vitamin String Quartet versions of some of our favorite songs throughout both the ceremony (when people are being seated and then of course during key moments like walking down the aisle) and cocktail hour. After that, we’ll be playing some softer songs (the originals, not just instrumentals) during dinner. I like the idea of having soft music in the background … Nothing too overwhelming because I want people to talk and enjoy themselves, but I definitely don’t want silence.
