Has anyone ever used music from the play RENT in their reception. I love RENT and I was thinking of using Seasons of Love or Without You as a first dance or something else but I’m not sure if people will get the reference since the play is so old and not on broadway anymore. What do you think?

I would be jazzed to hear it! What about “I’ll Cover You?” That’s a bit happier than “Without You,” and I think it’s adorable :).

I think a lot of the time no matter what song you choose, someone won’t be familiar with it. I say go for it! We’re considering including “I’ll Cover You” in our reception. 😉

Did you guys see Rachel and Mercedes do “Take Me or Leave Me” on Glee last episode! It was amazing!

RENT is one of my absolute favorite shows! We don’t plan to use one of it’s songs for our first dance but a few songs will be played throughout our reception. My MOH and I fully intend to karaoke to “Take Me or Leave Me” (it’s kind of our thing).

@dddd89: I LOVED that! I was all geeking out over them singing a song from RENT and Mr. Lox was just looking at me funny. Turns out he’s never seen it! Guess what we’ll be adding to the Netflix queue?

I saw Rent on Broadway(my one and only Broadway show so far) and I love the idea of Seasons of Love!

I love RENT! If you want to use some of the music, do it! Seasons of Love and I’ll Cover You are both great songs. So is Without You, although I wouldn’t necessarily think of it as a happy wedding song.

I agree, “I’ll Cover You” is a bit more fun and appropriate for a wedding than “Without You,” IMHO. “Without You” is a bit sad and too intense for me and the line “I’d die without you” is a little much.
