I am trying to work on reception music. There are some songs that I just do not really care about- and I’m giving the dj a lot of flexibility here. I am VERY into music lyrics and the meanings of songs. I tried to pick out everything at first and realized- Hey I’m paying someone to do this! I need help on a few ideas for certain portions of the reception. I just don’t want to do anything that’s 1) overdone or 2) Corny
IDEAS Needed FOR:
Mother/ Groom Dance
Wedding Party Dance (NOT choreographing, no chicken dance etc., nothing ridiculous)

IDK if you like folk music, but friends of mine played this as their last dance song. It was fun – everyone was jumping around and singing along. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjFaenf1T-Y

For the mother/son dance, I LOVE “You Raise Me Up”. There are several versions, but my favorites are either the Josh Groban one (bonus points for the one with the African Children’s Choir) or the Celtic Woman one.

For the cake cutting we are using “Love You Madly” by Cake.
My Fiance is dancing with his mother to “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.
Our last dance of the evening will be “Take Me Home Tonight” by Eddie Money.

@RahlyRah: oh my- the eddie money song used to be “MY” song when I was a little girl- I sang it all the time. I should definitely use it!

I’m a bridal consultant and keep a card on my Rolodex for just this kind of thing! Check out the following sites. Several of them have samples of the song, others give “recommended” use (father/daughter dance, groom/mom dance, etc). Hope these help! Let me know if I can assist you further.
