If you're having a Catholic ceremony aren't you obligated to follow the standard ceremony protocol? I'm not sure if any non-denominational prayers really even exist but would you be able to do a reading or some poetry?
I was wondering how you are having a catholic ceremony if he is muslim? I am and I know that in our religion it's really different from catholic/christian ceremonies. in the Koran, there are some great "sayings" that I don't think are geared toward muslim or anything. They talk about the importance of marriage. I can try and find it in english, if you want.
Good luck and congrats!
nada... that would be wonderful if you could!
My fiance and haven't had any problems planning our wedding actually its been a really pleasant experience.
We are actually getting married in our city's cathedral that has very strict guidelines, but no one has had a problem with doing this ceremony. We have ommitted the Liturgy of the Eucharist, but only because my FI doesn't feel comfortable having the Eucharist since his whole family would jsut have to sit there while the rest of us received it. If we wanted to do this, we actually could have gotten permission from our Bishop by writing a letter. :-)
During the ceremony, after we say our vowels, there is an optional place that the couple can say a prayer either together or individually outloud in front of the congregation. This prayer is up to the couple to write/find. My fiance and I decided that if we can find a prayer, we would like to say one at this point.
The thing is, is Islam is based on the Bible's old testament, so really, Catholics and Muslims do share a fair amount in their same beliefs. If we can find an Islamic prayer that does not say anything against the teachings of Christ, there should not be any problem in reciting it. Of course, we will probably change "Allah" to "God" but that would be about it if we found something that worked.
Suprisingly, the catholic teaching is not as strict and stuffy as you might think. Of course, there will always be people in the religion who have those views, but that is not really the traditional teaching of the church. :-)
Anyway, I don't want it to sound like I'm getting on my soap box or lecturing, but I hope that this explains things for you a bit better!
If you can find any prayers let me know! Thank you so much!

My fiance is Muslim and I am Catholic. Does anyone know of any great non denominational prayers that we could say at our wedding? We are having a catholic ceremony.
Thanks!
