Hey bees! SO and I will be in northern IL for a week at Christmas time visiting my mom. We don’t get up that way much and I would love to drive to Chicago one day to see the sights!
Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do or see? I’ve read about the ice skating at millenium park (is this where the big bean thing is, also?), and the magnificent mile for shopping. I’ve heard about Navy Peir but other than the ferris wheel, I’m not really sure what is there.
We will have one day only. Would yall recommend getting a pass for the train? Or take taxis?
Any advice/suggestions is much appreciated!

Yep Christkindlmarket in front of Daley Plaza (where there is also a super huge tree) is a destination. Right down the street from there on State Street is Macy’s… they have the several story high Christmas Tree.
Yes, skating at Millenium Park is nice and yes, that is where the Bean is located! They will have Michigan Ave (the Magnificant Mile) decorated quite nice.
When are you going? The Festival of Lights Parade is Nov 17th – you have to get down there pretty early to get a good location, but it’s nice as well.
If you are only going for one day and you aren’t familiar with the city, I would take Taxis rather than public transportation.
