You have been so helpful thus far so I thought I would ask another question and ask for your advice. My 8 year old cousin (will basically be 9 when I get married next June) was originally going to be the ring bearer, but I’m starting to question this decision based on some of the things I’ve read of the traditional age of a ring bearer (will he think it’s too babyish to be a ring bearer if he’s going to be finishing up the 3rd grade at that point?) My sister is my Maid/Matron of Honor and could walk him down the aisle if he was part of the wedding party…. but I was wondering, is there such a thing as a junior groomsman? Do you think 9 is too old for a ring bearer? When my sister was in my aunt’s wedding (the mother of said cousin), she was 10 and was a junior bridesmaid….
Just wondering for your input of what you would do in this situation (the more advice, the better) 😉 Thanks ladies!

Talk to his parents and get a feel–we wanted my brother to be a groomsman at that exact age (and he’s VERY intelligent and mature for his age), because we thought he’d think ring bearer was too babyish. We didn’t think junior groomsman would sit well with him, either. My mom caught wind and was FURIOUS, saying it wasn’t age-appropriate…so ring bearer he was…and he was not happy about it!

Ring bearer. A junior Grommsmen isn’t until he’s 13.

@bridetobe7844: I didn’t even realize there was such a thing so it’s good to know the limit! Thanks!
and peaches13, thanks for the advice! I’ll go with RB! 🙂

8 would be ring bearer age for sure.
Our best man’s son is 10. We asked him if he wanted to be a ring bearer, if he said no, we would have asked if he wanted to be a junior groomsman. However, he said yes and seems very excited~
He will be wearing the same attire as the groomsman so he pretty much IS one of them just gets the special role of bringing the rings.

My nephew will be about that age, and we’re asking him to be an usher. We figured he was too old to be a ring bearer and too young to be a groomsman.

Hmm… don’t know why I didn’t think of it before but I suppose I should ask him? He’s very well spoken and adorable (can you tell I’m partial to him?) so I know that he would be honest with me if I asked (and explained what each one was).
