My fiancee proposed on july 29th, my birthday!!!
It was a surprise to me that h proposed because I knew he hadn’t had time to talk to my dad, which was something we both wanted to do. (because of tradition and respect). Anyway, that morning I had a gynecologist appt. (terrible way to spend a b-day!! but that was they were booked up for two months) and then my mom was going to take bf and me to a brazilian barbecue restaurant for lunch. Well, my mom and I were waiting and waiting at the table with no sign of the Boyfriend or Best Friend. finally he arrived, 30 min late! I was sort of annoyed since I was so hungry but I didn’t say anything because nothing was going to ruin my b-day lunch! oh yea, he showed up with my little brother, which was a surprise because my Boyfriend or Best Friend was in downtown Austin that morning and that meant he would have gone ALL the way north to get my brother…odd…no wonder he was late!
So, we get done with lunch and my Boyfriend or Best Friend says “I want to take you to Butler Park, theres supposed to be a festival” I have a weakness for street fairs and things and the park he wanted to go to has a beautiful view of Austin and some fun little founains and things. We all headed out to the Park, but when we got there, it was deserted. No festival, nothing. “Let’s take a walk”, he said. Butler park was where we spent our 1 month anniversary together when we were in high school. We walked over to a tree in front of that same bench where we had sat while he gave me a pair of earrings that he’d made me. He got down on one knee, in front of my mom and brother, who was recording everything, and he proposed!!!
It was probably 105 degrees out there but that spot has so many special memories for us and has a view of my beautiful hometown which I adore.
Later he told me he had talked to my dad that day. He raced over and found him on his route (he’s a mailman) and asked him right there for his permission. My dad hugged him and congratulated him 🙂
