The bloat goes away for many people at the end of the first trimester before the baby bump really pops out at the middle of the second trimester.  You’ll know it’s baby, and not just bloat, because your bump will harden up a bit.  It won’t feel so squishy.

In the meantime, you can wear a Belly Band for now, since you’re probably not really big enough to wear maternity pants.  Also, I wore a lot of loose dresses (like wrap dresses) and flowy skirts because I found clothing pressing up against my belly to be really uncomfortable, even early on.

Oh man! I feel you! I’m only 6 weeks, and I hate getting dressed for work! I had some belly to begin with, so now that I’m bloated it doesn’t help. = ( I wish I could wear sweats everyday and call it good.

I’m 6 weeks and I totally agree. I’ve been wearing dresses to work because just the thought of buttoning my pants is not fun. I’m wearing pants for the first time in like two weeks today (ran out of dresses…booooo) and it’s really uncomfortable. It’s good to hear that it will *eventually* go away.

@AvantLaLettre:  I had to LOL at your post!  I remember being right around where you are and telling my husband that I had a bump, but it was actually a “poop bump”!  It’s uncomfortable, isn’t it?  I don’t remember it lasting too long, but I do clearly remember unbuttoning my pants while I was sitting at my desk at work just to feel better for a few minutes.  Hang in there!

I swear my bloat changed shape and size every couple of days in the beginning.  It did go away but it usually returned shortly after.  I think the best bet is to just wear the comfiest pants you have.

My bloating was really bad in the beginning, but I drank TONS of water and also exercised to help counteract the effects of it.  I was also wearing a BeBand to help keep it looking flat.  At about 11 weeks, I started noticing a difference – definitely less bloat and I feel so much better – but I’m still more squishy than I was pre-pregnancy (I’m 14 weeks now).  Just remember, there is a lot of extra blood flow to that area, so if you were tiny before, then it might not be all bloating 🙂

@Running Elley: I wish I could wear dresses! Maybe I can find a cozy black skirt to wear instead…

@AvantLaLettre: Please let me know if the band works…I will spend the money if I know it will work!

@missfroggy:I would TOTALLY wear them if I still had them. Mine really just disappeared one day lol.

PSA: They have some really cute stretchy-ish dresses at Target that aren’t very expensive. I think I’m going to buy 2 today just for casual weekend things (like this weekend we’re going camping at the beach and instead of wearing shorts with a dreaded button over my swimsuit I think I’ll be wearing one of these). They are soooo comfortable and they have them in a bunch of colors. Here’s me trying one on the other day so you can get an idea…

@AvantLaLettre:You’re welcome!! They are seriously so comfortable, like t-shirt material. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be practically living in them. The only thing I’m a teensy bit worried about is the chest area. Mine is already growing and I don’t want to be hanging out all over the place so I think I’m going to try a size up from what I normally wear to see if it gives me extra room to grow up there. Anddd I have that conversation with myself every day. I convince myself I’m showing, then I talk sense into myself and then I get sad about feeling so fluffy so I try to stop thinking about it haha.
