Ladies, my boyfriend has officially gone insane.

Today I made a photoset of photos I took at Versailles over the summer (those of you who have tumblrs know what I mean) and I showed it to my boyfriend when he got home from work. Just as an aside, I love Versailles and Marie Antoinette. I've read a few biographies about Marie Antoinette and I have a weird obsession with Sofia Coppola's movie. Last summer I lived my dream of visiting Versailles, but it was an unplanned trip so I didn't have time to book a tour or anything special. It's kind of a long story as to why it was unplanned, suffice it to say I was supposed to be in Madrid instead!

After I showed my boyfriend the photoset I told him that if and when we go to Paris I want to go on an ultimate tour of Versailles because my stepsister and I were really rushed when we visited in June. He looked at me for a long time and said, "Let's go to Paris for spring break." We are both teachers and spring break starts March 12th. That's only a few weeks from now! We are currently saving to visit Japan in May and money is tight because of some medical bills and he is paying down student loans and a car payment. At first I thought he was joking, but then he said he had already called my dad and asked his advice on it and asked about flights and buddy passes. My dad works for a commercial airline so to be fair, we can fly at a very discounted price. He said he had the money to pay for the hotel and plane tickets and still be able to go to Japan in May.

He said at first he wanted to keep it a total secret, but he was too excited. He said he'd looked at hotels and was going to book one in the next few days but thought I would want to add my thoughts to the plans.

Honestly I was totally shocked. This wasn't in the plans and I would like to save up some money in the next couple weeks. I would technically have three paychecks to stash away some money (on top of savings set aside for Japan already).

I think this is it though. I think this is how he wants to propose. Should we go? Is this crazy? It's money that I had not planned on spending so soon. I really, really want to give the green light to this but it just seems so imprudent and irrational! But then again, you only get engaged once. Argh, I feel like I'm going crazy!

Here are some photos from the photoset btw!

Wow, how exciting! If you can afford it, then GO GO GO! Engagement aside, traveling is such an experience and it's always better shared with the person you love. If you're truly worried about money (which is understandable) make sure you talk to your SO about it asap so you know you're both on the same page on what you can and can't afford.

This is from a FMIL.  Go and enjoy yourself.  I spent too many years being careful, and I know now that it wouldn't have hurt to let loose and enjoy a little.

    Have a wonderful time!

If you realistically can afford it (and cheap flights! jealous!), do it! Sometimes you've just gotta jump :)

Just go!  Whether he proposes or not, you get an amazing trip that you have always wanted AND you get to share it with someone you love.

You can save any day of the week, but at some point, what we save has to be used or passed on. :)

Ladies thanks for the encouragement! I'm going to tell him that I think it's a good idea! I just had to get over the initial shock of "Paris? In one month?!" I am going to save like crazy. Also I'd love to lose five pounds! That's doable in one month right?

And just to add, I know he has the ring. I don't know what it looks like, but he has it. That's why I think he wants to do the Paris trip. Engaged in Paris? Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

    Do it!  How awesome!

Also, five pounds in a month is totally doable and really wouldn't be that much extra effort.

Omg that is awesome and romantic regardless of a potential engagement, I am definitely jealous. I agree with PPs that since you can make it work financially, go! And go guilt free =) I'll be waiting for your post-vaca update!!!

As for the 5 lbs, obviously that is not as essential, but completely feasible. Whenever I need to save some extra $, I make a point of actually cooking lunch and dinner, which saves money and is also healthier. Two birds with one stone!

So all systems are go here guys. Hotel has been booked! Five days and four nights in PARIS. I'm still freaking out a little. I am madly window shopping all over the internet. I feel like I need like three entirely new Paris outfits. I know that's irrational!

    @missfrillycoat:  Thanks so much!

    Get outta town. LITERALLY! Ha

Spontaneous trips are the best. Yay for having a guy who is adventurous! Go get yourself a couple new outfits for the trip. You'll want to look cute for the impromptu engagement picture(s). ;-)

Don't forget to share photos when you get back!

AHHHH how exciting! Just remember to enjoy all of the holiday and try not to get too wrapped up in when he's going to do it (though i'd say thats easier said than done)

Have fun and like a PP said, make sure you show us the pics when you get back
