So I was inspired to make these bouquets after searching etsy.com. I saw somthing very similar and thought to myself…”Self, I think you could make those yourself!” So I went to my local Michael’s and bought myself a few pieces of felt some embrodiery floss and some buttons from Fabricland. I printed some templates for flowers I found online cut them out and used them as stencils, after I made a few flowers I said ” Self!! You were absolutely right!! I can do these myself!”
etsy sells a bridal bouquet, 4 brides maids, a throw away and 7 bouttoniers(sp?) (approximately) for $500 approximately including tax but not shipping.
I bought all the material fort about $200-$250 for a bridal bouquet, 5 bridesmaids, one junior bridesmaids, one throw away and 9-11 bouttoniers(sp?)
Most of the cost are the buttons but if you do a project like this get a Fabricland card. Card members get 50% off buttons. It’s saved me at least $100 since I started this project.
I am finished two bouquets as of right now, I hope to be done all the bridesmaids bouquets by them end of the week. I stopped doing one at a time and decided to cut out all the felt and embrodier each colour with the two different embrodiery floss, enough to finish the rest ..I’ve been working on it for the last week and a half..only 20 or so left to embrodier and then I can put them all together!!
I will then move onto my table number project and then onto the bridal bouquet.( I needf a small break from the flowers!)
Warning: This project is not for the faint of heart. There are a few things that make this project a little easier for me,
1. I am a Visual Art Teacher (but if you are at all crafty you can easily do this)
2. Since I am a teaher I have summers off and have time to devote to these projects.
Each flower is about an hours worth of work.
Each bridesmaid bouquet has 15-16 flowers, the throwaway has 12, the brides has 25. For me that’s approximately 140 flowers which equals approximately 140 hours! It is a labour of Love!
I started slowly in June and finished one to show my family and bridesmaids, since then I have worked almost from the time I’ve woken up to the time I’ve gone to bed for the last week and a half and I’m aming to be done on Sunday or Monday, and that is only the bridesmaids and the throw away.
I do not suggest this if you do not have the time to devote to this project. I am getting married next summer, this summer is devoted to all my DIY projects
If you like the style of these bouquets but don’t have the time, the prices on etsy are perfectly reasonable for the time and energy you will save.
