My ONLY brother (and a wonderful one at that) is a Navy officer and will not be at my wedding because he is going to be deployed mid-June. I get very teary-eyed when I think about him not being there to celebrate with us, especially since he’s my only sibling and only two and a half years older than me.
I was thinking that it would be a fun idea to have a life-sized cardboard cutout made of him and setting up a camera so guests could take photos “with him”. I thought it would be fun to send him the photos along with the wedding video so he doesn’t feel like he missed out too much and so that he knows that people missed him. In my mind, I am imagining that people would have fun with it, taking goofy poses and who knows what else. I think my brother would get a kick out of this…
…but what do you guys think? Is it weird? Will guests think that it’s (excuse the word) tacky? Will it make my brother even more sad? thoughts?

I think it’s a fun idea, and something that he could really appreciate… or really dislike. I think it depends on his personality, and the relationship you have! It sounds like something my sisters and I would absolutely do!! Go for it!!

Aw I’m sorry to hear that! I ove your idea of the carboard cut out! I say do it! It will be nice to send those pix to him!

That sounds like a great idea! I like it!

I think that is a great idea. I do not think it’s tacky at all! Hopefully your brother will feel special knowing that you went out of your way to make him a part of your wedding (in spirit and heart!!).

I think it is great! Also, you should look into a webcam. When my fiance’s brother got married last year his grandma was in the hospital so they webcamed it for her…Then, when their cousin got married his sister was pregnant and in a different state so she couldn’t make it they did the same thing. Some videographers have the capability to do this, too.

I think it is a great idea! although it might be sad that he wasnt there, it will be fun to know that people wanted to take pics with him and all. i think it would be very cute!

i love this idea! i think your guests would undestand, especially since he’s in the military and since we’re in a war, deployments are commonplace. go ahead and do this! i bet your brother will enjoy seeing those pictures!

Cute ideas! I really think he’ll appreciate it!
I wouldn’t worry about doing a webcam, you can’t stream video on a ship anyways so he wouldn’t be able to see it.
But as a fellow Naval Officer, I think your ideas sound really awesome and are sure to make him smile!

I really like the idea, I think it sounds super cute and creative! I’m sorry to hear he wont make it to your wedding but I think its so sweet how youre trying to remember him and pay tribute to him, even though he can’t be there. I don’t think it would make him more sad at all, in fact I think it’ll make him feel really special 🙂 He’ll be sad that he can’t be there but he’ll love that you’re thinking of him. Are you having a videographer? That would be a great way for him to “be there” without really being there and you can mail him a cd.
Have you thought about incorporating yellow or the yellow ribbon into the decor/favors? My FI is an officer in the army (currently deployed) and to honor his service and the service of friends and other troops, we’re using the yellow/ribbon in really subtle ways. For example, the ribbon tying our favor boxes is yellow. Have you thought about putting a yellow rose in his seat at the ceremony?
Anyways, love the idea and I just thought I would give you some more ideas! Hang in there *hugs*

I have a friend who’s brother is currently deployed to Afghanistan, and she’s doing a cardboard cut out. I think it’s a fantastic idea!
