You should make this the top tier of your cake (giant cupcake pan from William Sonoma):

Yeah, but it looks like it is a foot of just icing, which is misleading. It's just the shape of the cake. I find that disappointing. I like the idea of a blob of frosting the size of my head.
Mmmm... me too jocelyn! I could live off frosting if only it wouldn't turn me into an 800lb woman.
I really do think that would make a spectacular top tier, though. It actually isn't that big.
Now I am going to choke down a yogurt while secretly dreaming about buttercream.
I've seen that pan & next time I'm in the US, I'll probably pick one up. At Michael's in British Columbia it's like $50-- INSANE!
I think it would look cute... I'll definitely make a test cake over the next few months :)

After much debate (and pressure- after all this is what I do for a living) I've decided on what I want my cake to look like. This is a little whimsical... yet still has a traditional tiered cake.
I didn't want a cupcake tower for our cake b/c I thought it would look like something I just grabbed from work on my way to the reception, but it would feel wrong to not have a little something to display my love for these wonderful little bites of heaven. Also my FI loved the look of this cake & how fun it is.
Mine will be a smaller version b/c our wedding will have less than 100 people in attendance.
