Thought I’d post on my Cara Bridal journey as well!
So I had been looking around to get a backup dress for my wedding in case my JBS dress doesn’t reach me in time (3 months left to wedding date and I’m still waiting for revisions). I had contacted both misdress and heravintageco but couldn’t decide whether or not to really go with them.
Then I saw barbiestylez’s post on carabridal and I was blown away by the quality so I contacted Olive from Carabridal to get quotes on two dresses. Eventually I narrowed down to this dress from Pallas Couture in ivory with some changes done to the neckline.
7 Jan – emailed Olive
8 Jan – Olive responded and we went back and forth on the fabric choices. I made payment and she said the dress would be shipped by 26 Jan and I would get pictures before she shipped it.
24 Jan – Olive informed me that my dress would be delayed due to the Lunar New Year and that the new estimated shipment date is 14 Feb and she would send pictures on 12 or 13 Feb. A little disappointed since I saw some bees who placed their orders later receiving their dress/pictures.
12 Feb – emailed Olive to find out when she would send the pictures. She responded by end this week. The dress is almost completed save for beading.
It’s 15 Feb now as I type this so the estimated shipment date has passed. One day left to the end of this week so I am crossing my fingers that I will get the pictures on Sunday if not I’ll be sending her another email.
Will post again when I have an update!

Gorgeous – looking forward to seeing the finished dress!

@nephthys: beautiful… I actually want to see how this dress turns out!

@nephthys: can’t wait to see it!! I feel sort of bad because olive is probably swamped from the bee ordering a ton of dresses and the holiday! Im sure she’s happy she’s busy, but probably overwhelmed!!! Lol. Can’t wait to see it though. I love reading these journeys!

@nephthys: That dress is amazing. Fingers crossed for you that you get your pics today or tomorrow… can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Ok I have gotten my pictures
I am happy with everything else except the neckline. I was expecting it to be closer to the original picture, because that was mainly the reason why I chose to get this dress made. I noticed that she did the same type of beading on Barbiestylez’s dress on mine when the picture showed otherwise, which makes me wonder if that is the extent of her beading capability.
Anyhow I asked her if she could lower the price since that the neckline is not full Austrian crystal as was previously quoted and she agreed, knocking off $20. She also did tell me that she had quoted me cheaper for the fabric of silk satin when it should be more expensive. Not sure how true that is.
I’ll post again when I have the dress, she said she would send it out today.

I think it looks very good! I’m glad you pointed out the beading and managed to get a discount. I think the rest of the dress looks fairly impeccible. You could always take it to a seamstress in your area and ask them to quote you for a heavier beading?

@Luce587: Yeah I thought it wasn’t fair that she had said the neckline would be full Austrian crystal (I googled what that meant and it apparently means Swarovski crystals) initially and now I don’t see that. I’ll weigh my options again on the neckline when I see and try the dress on.

@nephthys: Looks good except the beading at the neckline, which is in some way the most distinctive part of the original. I think you could probably take it to a local seamtress, or even a friend with some sewing skills, to bling that up once it arrives to you.

@nephthys: She also did tell me that she had quoted me cheaper for the fabric of silk satin when it should be more expensive. Not sure how true that is.
I doubt it. From my experiences in purchasing custom garments in China, that’s typically what’s said to you when you want corrections to the garment.
I would agree with you, that that may be the extent of her applique and beading abilities. Definitely bring it to somewhere else when you receive it. It shouldn’t be too hard. What’s missing is a silver thread lace applique over the lace overlay at the top, and probably some more beading. But I think as long as you have the silver thread lace applique at the top, it should look similar enough, you may not need the extra beading.

@nephthys: Is she not willing to deck it out in all crystals like you want? I think you have to be very concise with what it is that you want. On a side note…when I had inquired about making the lower half of my dress silk satin…she had quoted me $619. I decided to no go with that so she gave me a lower quote of $276 for the other satin, which, so far seems just as nice in pictures. Do you mind if I make a suggestion? Perhaps get the crysals on the straps bigger so that it actually covers the entire strap. I had to put that out to Olive as well as I think it looks weird to see the spagetti strap underneath the lace straps I got. Perhaps get the neckline a little bit more beaded up? Attach a picture of something you’d like? But it’s all up to you. I think the back of the dress is absolutely beautiful though. It looks like it’ll be light to wear.

- Wedding: March 2014 - A castle!
I think it’s pretty, but there are a lot of things missing from the original. For example, the lace that goes across the back/neck/shoulders and how the lace connects with the strap on the back (behind armpits). You are right that the neckline is severly lacking detail from the original. I’m really surprised she just did a few pearls and didn’t even bother to add the rhinestones. I do think your dress is pretty, but I would be a bit disappointed if she said she could make me a very close replica and she didn’t really even get the shape right and skipped out on some major details that really make the original stand out. I hope you like it when it comes. Please post pics and a detailed review for us!

It doesn’t look anything like the dress you wanted. I wouldn’t settle for this I don’t care if it was FREE!
Youd be better off finding a similar style at a cheaper salon already made.

@millermelly: Oh your dress was in satin? I didn’t want satin because I thought it would be too shiny but it looks alright in your pictures! I did ask for the straps to be changed to just normal straps but I was expecting more embellishments on the straps themselves rather than just a row of crystals on them. I don’t know if she has shipped the dress out yet but I just asked her if I could make changes if she hasn’t.
@FutureDrAtkins: I actually asked for those changes to the straps and the strap across the neck to just be normal thin straps but with the same embellishements as the neckline. Yeah I was quite disappointed given the rest of the work she has done so far but I don’t know if I just picked the wrong dress. Perhaps I should’ve asked for something alone the lines of the Inbal Dror dresses that she seems to do so well.
@BellaDee: It’s actually a back-up dress, I am still hoping to receive my first choice in time. If she has already mailed it out, I might just look around for some crystal embellishments to do the top myself.

I’m also not super impressed with my completed dress. I guess it’s always safer to just order a dress the maker has already replicated (like the Inbal Dror). My Carabridal order was also a back-up…
