I know that moving is stressful.  I just moved at the beginning of the month.  I was out of town on business so FH did the whole move and our dogs freaked out.  He took them to the “puppy spa” and one of my babies was having a hard time so the spa called me and took them to my vet (which was next door) They had to spend a few days at the vet but it was for the best. It really is not that bad. That may be an option of you are afraid for Future Father-In-Law to let your kitty out.  Good luck.

could you get a friend to take care of your cat. i have three cats and i have to board one of them  (he is very temperamental) and it went fine.  but i will tell you a story. when we bought the house i move my three cats and put them in the walk in attic  until we finished the unloading of the truck. when i went to let my cats out of the attic my very temperamental cat was missing. i went crazy looking for him in the empty attic. after three hours of looking i saw a space between the wall and the stairs in the attic and figure out my cat went inside the wall. i was so scare for him. i called the fire deparment crying. they came and told me to let the attic open that he will come out. and thats exactly what happen. he came out of the wall. it was very scary but a great story lol

So sorry! Moving is such a pain and kitties are so sensitive to stress. Our little Leo got fatty liver disease because he didn’t eat for a week or two after we moved, and then a family emergency came up and we had to leave suddenly. Thankfully he’s fine today, but long story short, cats are easily stressed! However, I think as long as you see him, which it sounds like you will, he will be okay! Just make sure to give him lots of love and attetntion in the days between your move!

awwwww! i know how moving with a cat can be stressful…we moved from washington state to illinois with 3 cats. a 4 day drive with 3 cats isn’t exactly fun. is there a part of your FFIL’s house that you could section your kitty off to. kind of like he has access to a couple diff rooms to minimize his interaction with the other cats in the house? i know you love your furbaby and dont want to stress him out too much but cats are pretty resilient. mine did farely well for all the stress we had to put them through. they were in our car inside a cage that took up the whole back seat for 4 days. we covered the cage with a sleeping bag so they were pretty much in the dark for the trip. we did that because seeing things go by in the windows freaked them out even more. and it helped with the smell of the litter box. once we got to illinois we didn’t have a house lined up yet and we stayed with my dad. our cats were kept in my old bedroom there for about 3 or 4 days. once we got a place we loaded them back up in the car and made the 1 1/2 hour drive to the new house. one of my cats is pretty big scaredy cat too. he likes to hide…especially when we have guests over. we just made sure that we set up a place for him to hide that was nice and comfy. after a few days they had the place all checked out and sniffed down and they were good. it took my scaredy cat a few extra days but we expected that. before we moved just seeing everything in boxes in our old house freaked him out.  ok sorry for the long reply. good luck with your fur baby!!

My mom has a very let’s say…feisty cat. I have 3 of my own, so I understand completely. Maybe you have a friend that can kitty-sit until you move. Or maybe you can keep your in-law’s cats and your cat separated in the house somehow. 5 days seems like eternity when you have cat problems, but really it’s only a short time and hopefully will pass by quickly.
