I thought I would make a detailed post about my Disney Weddings journey in case anyone was interested in a “budget” Disney Wedding like I was!
First, we got engaged on an evening in May. The very first thing I did that night was get on Disney Weddings website. I was COMPLETELY unaware that Disney even offered “cheap” wedding packages. I had attended a fabulous Disney Wedding that I believe cost about $20,000 for 40-50 guests and a short reception. I had always thought “wow that would be great if you could just ELOPE to Disney World, take some pictures, and have a reception back at home.” WELL! To my surprise, Disney offers small scale weddings for limited amounts of guests. This is what they offer:
The Escape Collection is offered for 20 guests (bride and groom included), and includes a cake, 1 hour of photography, a ceremony at one of four locations, violinist for ceremony, bridal boquet, and either a 3 hour limo charter or an “in room celebration.” This package costs $5,000, or $6,000 if you want to use the Wedding Pavillion at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. I was interested in this idea at first (hey, $5,000 sounds great!), until I factored in travel and other expenses. This package requires a four night stay at Disney World, which, for a hotel of “Disney Wedding” proportions would probably run a few thousand dollars. You can stay at any of the Disney resorts, but I was interested in FINALLY breaking the bank and spending my wedding night at one of the Deluxe Resorts.
Then, I read on about the Memories Collection. PERFECT for what we want and need. This package includes 6 guests (bride and groom included), bridal boquet, 1 hour of photography, violinist during ceremony, the three hour limo or in room celebration, and a choice between 3 locations (the beach at Disney’s Polynesian, the marina at Grand Floridian, or a spot at Wilderness). This package is only $2,500! Granted that is one expensive hour, it is an investment I simply could not pass up! This package also only requires a two night stay at Disney, which is another way to save.
We chose the Polynesian Resort for our ceremony. I like this because it has the “elopement” feel of a beach wedding, is within minutes of the Grand Floridian/Wedding Pavillion by foot for pictures, and has the castle in the backdrop of the ceremony. Since the ceremony is at the Polynesian, this is where we booked the room for the night before and after our wedding. The VERY CHEAPEST room at Polynesian was $540 per night…WAY more that I would ever want to spend on a hotel room…but I want to stay where we are having the wedding.
The first step in the process was to call and get the date we wanted. Memories packages can only be booked 6 months in advance at a maximum, and it is by month (so you can call July 1st for any date in January, it doesn’t matter the date in January). July 1st at 8:30am sharp I called Disney Fairytale Weddings. They took my information and put in a request. Being a holiday week, I was told I may not hear back until the next week. However, I was told that the date preferences get booked according to the order of the request. That afternoon, I received a call back from our coordinator! He told me what times were available at our location for that day, and BOOM! We got our day, time, and location! Perfect 🙂
He put together a contract and emailed me the details. The total base cost is $2,495, and $500 is required with the signed contract to reserve your date. This deposit is payable by check or credit card, and you have a few weeks to send in the deposit and they hold your date and time until then. I got mine in ASAP. I also had to book our room at Polynesian before sending in the contract, as this is required to hold your date.
About 2 weeks after mailing in the contract, our deposit was processed and we got an email today with the details of our wedding. The “Planning Kit” is emailed to you with photographs of floral options, add on options (corsages, boutinneres, ring bearer pillows, etc). You also choose between the limo charter and the in-room celebration. We chose the in-room option, as it comes with flower petals spread around the room, candles, monogrammed towels, chocolate covered strawberries…and they ask what day and time you want this set up. We chose between 7pm and 9pm on the night of our wedding, as we will be at the parks until about 9pm and it will be set up when we get back. You could have the limo and the in-room stuff for an extra $300. No thanks.
The bridal boquets are GORGEOUS. I would guess that they would each cost at least $200 as an alacarte service, and there were many options. I attached pictures below (I was DYING to know what my options were before I received the planning kit…I was unable to find photos anywhere online). I added on a boutinnere for my fiance to match my boquet, and it was only $10. This is the only add on I chose.
You have to give the name of your officiant on this planning kit as well. Disney is NOT in charge of your officiant or anything to do with your documents. This worked out well for us because my fiance’s husband is a preacher, and we will not having to fool around with the courthouse in Orlando.
